What were the symtoms of the car you were working on? Similar to this guys problems? When you say loose could you actually move it with your hand?

The symptoms were similar, at times it would idle rough enough to shake the whole engine back and forth. Sometimes it would idle fine but if I foot-braked it and put it in gear and with no/mild load it would start doing it. Other times, while going down the road it would cut out and act like it was going to stall. When I found the problem, the loose crank sensor, I could in fact move it around with my fingers. Afterward it wouldn't start at all, unless I wiggled it a bit. The thing was chewed up pretty bad. Never set a code except for the 42.

p.s. 42 is the answer to Everything! Douglas Adams reference.;)

I will test the hall effect pick up when I get back from vacation (leaving this morning 8/10).

I printed out the "No Start" diagnosis and schematics from gnttype.org and plan to attack the car with that info when I return.

Isn't he on vacation?

Folks, I JUST got back from vacation.

I plan to go through the No-Start diagnosis "tree" tomorrow and see what I come up with.
Here's to hoping it's something simple.
I HAVE to get it done by noon so I can order the sensor(s) it needs for delivery by the evening.....otherwise I won't get 'em until Monday afternoon. :(

Thus, no new news or progress......I just got back home! :p

Thanks for all the input, MUCH appreciated.

Please don't hesitate to e-mail or PM me if you have a brainstorm.

Hi folks,

I apologize for not posting my results.

I followed the No Start Diagnosis on gnttype.org and, lo and behold, the CCCI was bad.
Picked up a new AC/Delco CCCI and coil pack (for peace-of-mind) and she started up immediately.

Been running fine ever since.

Thanks for all the input!!
