Occasionally I see a metallic sided ignition control module for sale or mounted on GNs/T-Types/Turbo-T's. The original ones were black & molded in industrial plastic. What gives, were the bare aluminum sided ones for another car, are they the same, are the part numbers the same, is one an updated version of the other?

You might have been looking at a WELLS. :D I don't like them. Sometimes they're OK, I guess. If they work, they work. You can't check them with a caspers tester so you have to install them to see if they're good. There's a better kind that has a silver case but have no manufacturer name on them. Those you can check. Sorry about the WELLS. :D

I had 2 Wells in a row where the non EST part of the module was dead. So unless the engine cranked to 400 RPM on the starter, the car wouldn't start.

I'd rather, and do run junkyard parts rather then anything other then real GM ingnition parts. I've wasted far too much time, with new aftermarket junk.

So is it possible that my aluminum one is causing my misfire.....hmmm gonna have to check it out. I thoguht they were all aluminum.

Anytime a TR misfires under WOT or is hard starting, first suspect IMO would be ignition module.
