RockAuto lists the D1996 as the stock replacement module for our cars.

They list another module for the '88 - '92 Lesabre 3.8L with the Type I Magnavox module.... D1922A

I am wondering what is different between these Type 1 modules?

I currently have a junkyard type II coilpack and module, but may have to go back to a type I coilpack/module to get my 2-step to work......

If the later one is a "bolt-in" ...... wonder what is different?

different plug and the later module uses the second slot in the crank sensor

Does the later type I module have any advantages over the earlier type I module?

So they were not sequential EFI systems then?

That's interesting. The list of donor cars that has the same module as our cars..... I'm fairly certain none of these have cam sensors.

Hmm......

So basically.... or same ign module can either be found on sequential or bank to bank cars.... with the bank to bank cars not having a cam sensor.

The later type I magnavox modules were only on non-cam sensor equipped cars and hence... all bank-to-bank.

I have tried to find a pinout for the later type 1 modules... but have been unsuccessful so far on the net.....

no fwd had a cam sensor

the D1996 module and even the same 1227148 ecm were used in the fwd cars in 86

the plug socket on the d1922a is different , it has slot keys in different spots and wont allow you to plug it into our harness .
the crank balancer had two reluctor wheels , the inner with three slots and an outer with 12 (i think never counted)
and the crank sensor looked just like ours but had 4pins and could read the outer slot
