Hello Gurus. My car is stalling (usually when hot) and it occurs when I press the gas quickly and then let off fast. I have the IAC set and the TPS all dialed in. My mechanic said it may have something to do with the transmission. The car does not hve the engine breaking it needs because the rpm's drop so fast that car can't hold the idle. Is this the bands in the transmission not holding. The transmission was rebuilt twice. Another screw up?
Ant help would be great.:)

Torque converter lockup clutch can be sticking and not unlocking quick enough.

Any other tranny questions or problems would have to be handled by an expert. :)

Might want to try the tranny section, although they prolly will ask you all about those 2 rebuilds. :(

Your 9" converter doesn't have enough inertia (mass) to keep the engine idling.

You have to send back your chip to Red for tweaking .... tell him about the smaller converter.

Great fedback

Thanks for the replies guys. The car has done this from the start when I first got it. The convertor has been changed twice with the first one blowing the tranny (reason for first rebuild). I will talk to some of the guys in the club about this.:)

I keep on forgetting about the transmission section on the board. I guess this should be moved there.

Important note

This may be relevant because it may rule out the transmission or the TC. When the car is hot, and the car is not moving, I give it a good rev (up to 4000 RPM). The motor's RPM's drop quickly and stall the car as well. Does this rule out a transmission related problem or is it something else. Keep the help coming...:)

I think you totally missed ChrisCairns post. It's the inertia in your converter. You need to get your chip tweeked for the higher stall converter.

If the cam sensor is not set right it can cause a bog on take off. The car will run fine but cough or bog off idle. Just a thought.

Thanks for the replies

Thanks again guys. It is getting checked out tomorrow. I'll keep the TB community posted.

you said your I.A.C#'s are fine??...what are they??...the 9" converter is NOT the problem with stalling!..i have a 16930 art carr and never had a problem with inertia...or had a chip tweeked to stop it!....please explain dave:confused: joe

Thanks Joe

Joe, my mechanic says that the TC has nothing to do with it as well. It is getting checked out tomorrow and I will post the numbers as well. The IAC and TPS were set about two months ago. This has got to stop.

What chip you running? It may already have the anti stall feature in it. Some aftermarket chips have it in there no matter the car. Simply because it doesn't negatively affect a stock convertered car.
