Hey guys, don't forget about the 84's as well! It might not hold up to the standards as the later years but is still black and has the the same symbol less the intercooled badge on the front fender! So are we not part of the family?

My bad! I meant to say "just over 1400 84's and nearly 20,000 87's" Of course 84s are part of the family, those cars were so far ahead of their time even the engineers that designed them weren't sure they would ever actually make it to the showrooms. When they rolled off the assembly line a lot of people at Buick had their collective fingers crossed that they would be received well by the masses and that they would perform as well (and hold up) as they thought they would. Obviously they underestimated the success on both fronts. The 86/87 version never would have made it to production if not for the success of the 84/85 hot air cars. There is a popular story in Buick circles that the lack of hoopla surrounding the introduction of the 84 turbo Regals was by design for fear of another turbo car disappointment (see turbo Rivera and 82 Sport coupe with carbs). The first real marketing blitz was the George Thorogood "Bad to the Bone" commercial that ran for the 1985 model year. While the I/C version is the most desirable for several reasons, they owe their existence to the success of the 84/85 version.

Not checking the G80 posi option was actually a fairly common oversight. My 86 GN parts car didn't have it.

If I had to do it over again I'd have a T and not a GN. Maybe a limited in a light color that was easy to keep clean, with those pillow top seats and a column shift. Now that I'm getting older I don't really care for all the people taking cell phone pics of my car wherever I go.

Tim87tr has a beautiful Limited and we were at a car show together last week and you could tell who knew their TR's. Most people would skip past his car to look at mine. His car is in mint condition and only has 23,000 miles on it. My car could use new paint and more common than a Limited. They made over 20,000 87 GN's and only 1500 and change limited's. Plus his limited is completely loaded. It is funny how people are attracted to the black paint. I myself love the look of the GN's since I own one but I completely respect the t-types and turbo t's.

The '87's have 5 more HP than the 86's, I think it's due to the lighter grille without that cheesy chrome piece in there.:p;)

Hey hey hey...my 86 resented that and I kinda like that "cheesy" chrome piece.
It makes the 86 different.
Grand National - "No room for chrome" (unless it is on the grill!)

Everyone owns a GN but not everyone has a Turbo T because they are much rarer than the GN. ;)

What's the difference?

Price

Unless you are talking about some of those GN's and T-types that weren't based on a turbo Regal frame.

LeSabre GN anyone? How about a Skylark T-type???

Sometimes we forget Regals weren't the only Buicks.
