I'm sitting up my direct clutch clearance and noticed that the backing plate has a slight taper to it on the clutch side. Checking with a flat edge going across the backing plate, the taper starts at the outer edge and increases as you move to the inner edge. Is this normal?

Your Pressure plate is coneing throw it away. This can be seen on clutches that do not have many miles on them. Looks like a black ring on the inside of the clutch face. This is because the apply ring is not centered on the apply plate and pushes from the inside (factory mistake). This will get worse if you dual feed with any line pressure. I make rings that apply across the whole face to stop the coneing. Find a flat pressure plate and life will be good.
