I was just checking out my BorgWarner clutches, and noticed there's a stack of 10 for direct and forward. I thought there was a slight difference in color and material for these. These all look ident. with 168.T3744 stamped on them. Does it matter which I use in which drum?

Forward clutch

Ok, I have another question, ATSG shows two waved plates in it, gnttype guide says one waved and a backing plate, another source says just the one waved on the back.

Are waved plates that obvious, this one doesn't look like it has any. Which is the correct amount??

*update* I pulled the pack from my other tranny's drum, and I can tell it has a waved plate on the bottom, 3 steels and then the 'backing' plate that rides the snapring.

Anybody??

Aw comon, I know somebody around here knows this. ;)

I pulled the direct clutches and the steels have burnt looking spots on them. Are they shot? I don't think they're pitted, just have brown or black spots on them.

clutch

Forward and direct use the same clutch. From the factory--6 in direct---4 in forward.

Steels

Thanks for clearing that up..

Looks like my direct steels are shot, can you buy just the steels by themselves as a kit??
