so I would have to say this thing has probably never been cleaned

Make sure u clean inside it to, probably a bunch of oil inside it.

just cleaned inside and out
hot water and dawn to start very little oil came out of inside
some of the paint came of the bigger ribs between the fins and I just used a spray hose
surprised on how clean the water wash after one flush triple flush

Not a bad idea to remove the paint on the fins , as minute as it is ,it will help . And I would clean the inside with gas or something pretty strong .

As in a trip to a rad shop, that has a tank compatible w/ alum radiators....
