I have seen it before but was wondering if anyone here is running a distributor and the stock ECM.

Thanks!

I dont think you can. You might be able to use the ECM from a 1985 3.8 SFI as it was PFI and distributor. But who is going to burn a chip for it?

Kind of off topic, but did anyone notice that Jack Cotton went 8.90's with a stock coil pack at BG this year? No distributor for Mr. Jack.

I have always asked myself the same thing. How come S II engines run so good with the stock DIS setups ?? Is it the head design ? Overall engine design ? Diff angle (*) ??? But you can't say the same thing about the 109 ! I know Laz & Roy ran 9.3's with iron heads & if not mistaken they had DIS too. I would've love to see them switch to aluminum heads & have them take the DIS to the max. Probably would've run 9.1s !! RJC is still testing their mega-pack for stock ECU. It's not a distributor but it's an option. HTH

I thought Bill Anderson went 8.30s years ago with stock coil pack. But had to put in a new one every 10 passes or so. I am not positive on that number, but I know he changed them often. Hopefully he will chime in.

I went an 8.25! Conley went 7.85 with a stock coil pack. They wont last very long with alot of power from my experience.

I recall Mike Licht is testing a coil on plug setup that will be run by the stock ECU, no dual DIS4's so it will be cost effective option and it will be plug and play with some other magic tricks. He had this and it was discussed at the tech seminar at BG.

Good wiring and grounds is key to success with the DIS IMHO. I had some problems with it but found some issues with the grounds that made it go away.

I wonder if this is the setup the late Bruce did? I talked with him about it at BG in '06. He was running the LS1 CNP setup.... he was able to run really big plug gaps... w/o blowing the spark out at fairly high boost....He mentioned some issue as well as I can remember... that the setup was slow to crank..... repeatable... but slow to crank..... like it had to turn over a certain number of revolutions before it got the go ahead to crankup.

No it is not the same as Bruces system, this system is a new design that will add some very nice upgrades. Bruce did get some input from Bob Bailey on his they were good friends and spoke often. Our new system will be true sequential and add a two step plus soft rev limit. Because of both Bob's and my short timeline these days it is moving along more slowly than we would like but it is moving. I do not know when it wil be ready to sell, hopefuly soon, but we will make an announcment when we can. Due to the number of requests we received we are working on a TSM legal version as well.

Awesome Mike.

All the aftermarket stuff you have been involved in keeps these cars going with the new tech stuff.... Who would have ever thought about all the cool stuff we have for a 21+ year old platform.... wideband controlled fuel trim is one thing I am still amazed at.... on a stock ECM.... combine that with CNP....

Keep it coming.

Thanks for your continued drive to bring the newer technology to the market for these older cars.

Thanks, we are trying, it is getting hard to come up with new ideas for improvments. We still have a couple left on the drawing board though. We have to finnsih the stuff we are already working on first.
Mike

Thats great news Mike! I'll be happy to be a test rat. ;)
