DIY- Junk drawer DIY kit, SMC controller, Sureflow pump,m-10, 1/8th ss line...

Here goes..... So ive got some extra pieces and parts lying around from various kits and DIY kits from the past.

Found:
New GM overflow bottle
Sureflow 60psi pump i purchased about 4 years ago w/ -4 JIC fitting
Brass Inline check valve
SS feed line from pump to m-10 fitting in up pipe 1/8th brass fittings
SMC non progressive controller


So the almighty question is this, if i wire up the smc controller to the 60psi pump while using the sureflow 60psi pressure switch, the pump will cycle on and off correct?/// while the controller is still feeding voltage to the switch?

If i turn the SMC controller down, will it have enough voltage to close the switch for the pump to come on?

I am running 112 octane and 21psi with 25° of timing in 3rd gear.
Fuel pressure is 47 and my millivolts at 110+MPH are 710 to 699
Yes the stock injectors are maxed out power wise, i have a race this coming saturday and need just a tad bit more fueling for all gears.

So if i set the controller to low flow, and spray on point to 18+psi, then the car should have enough fueling to take the boost up 2-3 more psi.

As of now, this kit is temporary till i can retune with the 009s, but if i get great results, im aint touchin it!

Other than methanol, am i missing anything?

Well hey its a DIY kit so you do the research yourself

I'll be nice starting April next year :wink: Get them coolers ready.. this year I even stopped the TAI class just for the Ribzzzz

The SMC controller should handle the pump.. now when it switches on, size of nozzle, pressure setting on pump, etc.. and on top of that your trying to fix a poorly designed fuel system on your motor cuase you dont want to spend the $$$ is a recipe for disaster. I have my own demons to handle.. and the proper advice is get your fuel system squared away with the proper injectors and chip.. have that tuned in... then use the alcohol if you wish for a little cooling.

Hope you dont skimp on the ribs like you do your fuel system :frown:

Actually though if I remember this right Razor should know that old smc box like the back of his hand. Thats what he started with and supposedly knew it inside out. I think he tried something like this with it with no success....? and then the ideal for his controller was born ... ?? I don't know, it just seems like this was brought up in the past somewhere.

The car is lean, but not detonating.
Eventually i will put the 009s in( race is this saturday), but the car is 100% stock other than the crap in my sig as of now, plus a 340m and hotwire kit.

I just need a lil shot of meth to cool it off and add a tad bit of fueling to it, to get the mv up and af down. Eric says about 5-10% more fueling would be about right.

Its not a racecar, only been to the track 3 times :redface:


Thanks for the info on the controller, if i didnt have 3 projects in the fire right now id be purchasing another one of your kits, but im not too serious with this car... It just happens to run decent.

Small pump, small nozzle, weak controller.. Just needs to work for next weekend!
If the car goes faster i will update the sig, if it goes slower i wont! LOL

Yup. The shurflo pump at 60 PSI should only draw like 6 amps.. the SMC controller shouldnt have too much issue with that current.

That controller started it all

Still.. Bryan needs tough love.. and needs to get the bigger injectors. He knows what he has to do.. just trying to skimp on doing it, and then seeing who else he can get to climb aboard :redface:

I have a m-10 hago fitting and at 12 volts on the bench it was way too much

So i hooked the pump up to a 6 volt battery and seemed to spray a tad less.
Kinda neat watching the pump cycle like that and the spray staying constant.

So, im gonna take the controller to work tomorrow and turn it down all the way.

If its still too much meth.
Should i cut it with water, or just take it down to a m-5?
Do you have any m-5's?

Turn the pressure down on the pump.. you'll be fine as long as you have good gas.

There is an allen screw on the head of the pump, turning it outward will reduce the pressure the switch cuts out at. This will reduce volume. Its not very pretty.. but should get you your means.

I ran my large Shurflo straight for 3 minutes yesterday varying pump speed a couple of times Min. to Max.

Works just fine, voltage readings were 7 volts to 12 volts at the motor, 13 volt battery power.

If you want 6 volts use an adjustable power resistor.

I read this thread and found my self trying to focus on the subject, but every other reply all I could read was RIBS. Now Im getting a craving for some good ribs!!

Under $5 at a surplus store.

Voltage with the SMC controller may vary on his pump anyways so he may luck out with about 6 volts control on min.
