The only knock gauge I have is the scan master and I thought it would be nice to have an audible one but a very reputable engine builder said that it will just be constantly going off and pick up every little thing. Car is basically stock right now but will have 60s, TT chip, and alky soon.

They are great. They don't go off "all the time" as your engine builder thinks. Mine goes off either b/c it's truley hearing knock or because of massive wheel spin. It doesn't go off if there are "rattles".

I bought one just after I bought alchy and, IMO, it's a must have when pushing a lot of boost and at 30psi of boost if mine even makes a chirp I let off. This is the frustrating part b/c it does go off when picking up wheel spin knock when the tires are instantly set a blaze which is false knock but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Put it this way: The Scanmaster will tell you what the motor already heard which may be too late! The detector tells you what it is hearing NOW.

One of the best mods I've done like Kevins said it will give you some false alarms. I get it from dead stop if the reared shakes due to wheel spin on rough pavement . It's just an occasion, but thing I feel much more comfortable with it.

Yea I'm agreeing with y'all but I figured with him being so knowledgeable about these cars that he would know whats best

It picks up knock, whether false or not, your computer looks at it the same way.

Scanmaster or audible, they are both hooked up to the same sensor so their going to give you the same results. The only reason hes saying itll keep going off is because it being audible it alerts you, your scanmaster isnt going to start screaming at you to let off haha

I already have a scanmaster. I wanted an audible so it WOULD scream at me lol I would rather be screamed at then realize I was causing damage too late

Seeing what you plan on in upgrades, look into a 3 bar and wideband.

Mine only sounds off at a knock event. Be sure to take your time and install it correctly. It's actually quite easy to install. Follow the directions. Solder/heat shrink. If installed wrong and always hot,it will beep at you when the starter engages.

I will be the first one to tell you I have a LOT to learn, that's why I am on here for multiple hours every single day. I don't have enough money to just throw at it so that won't be a problem lol you, ss502, said that you are not pushing AEM...does that mean you wouldnt recommend it? I am planning on getting a power logger. Will that be capable of monitoring wide band or will I need something else? Or instead of the power logger should I just get something similar to this AEM kit?

Your engine builder knows what he's talking about.;)

A powerlogger is what you want and just about any wideband will interface with it.

x2! With the powerlogger you will get an upgrade chip for the scanmaster which makes it poll faster than the standard Scanmaster.

X3 and yes, As far as wideband, I do like AEM. Plus with the powerlogger you can share your .dat files and get tips and advice from some pretty smart peeps on this board.

Well once while racing at the track my alky wire, came out of the fuse box, sure glad I had the audible alarm, allowed me to drive it home.

Definitely get one. Chances are if you are at high boost you're watching the road not the SM. so many things can go wrong especially if you try different things like chips / boost/ timing

get the gauge, audible and sm. you wont know what to do with yourself...lol...one thing i do know...you'll see it alot more on sm than the audible going off...for some reason by default i only pay attention to sm....its straight from ecm ...get out of it if it does not drop after a couple of seconds.

What? You didn't solder it? Shame shame :)
No and it still isn't, but now it is zip tied to a wire beside it so it won't come out again unless I cut the zip tie. :p This happened about 3 yrs ago, but at my age who's counting? Running 25+ boost since day one with Razor's alky kit, something help me keep them head gaskets in there.... When the alarm goes off, I'm off the throttle, natural reaction... also have the scan master 2.0, wide band led guage, power logger. I don't know about you guys but when I floor the Buick, I'm watching the road or race track, not the scanmaster or the a/f gauge, it's because I have the audible alarm.
