Don't shoot me for this but I'm looking for a mid 80's Dodge Colt turbo. I had one back in the late 80's when I was in highschool but I never see them now adays. Does anyone even know where to look. I've scanned ebay and autotrader but no luck. Looking for 83-85 models.
Thanks...
Steve

Good luck, I don't think there are any of those left on the road.
I was a mechanic for Dodge back then, that thing was a little
pocket rocket!

hmm i DON'T RECALL THE LOOKS OF THE TURBO COLT?

I HAD AN 85 OR 86 GLH TURBO OMNI. THAT SUCKER WAS FAST. BACK THEN I WAS TURNING CARS OVER RESELLING THEM 1 A MONTH.

I REMEMBER A GUY OFFERED TO TRADE ME A 71 BUICK GS FOR THE GLH DOH! WHAT AN IDIOT I WAS! WAIT I STILL AM

wow

My brother had one of the colts, he let his idiot roomate borrow it and he wrecked it. I liked the dual-range transmission. He also had #967 GLHS which I was going to use but it had bad piston pin noise, that thing was like having a dippy 4 banger and once the turbo spooled up it was a rocket ship. Similar to the GLH but it was intercooled, there were 1000 made of the intercooled ones, they only made 500 GLHS omnis. Then he had an 87 or 88 Mirage turbo. It had a bad turbine seal and would smoke like a cropduster. I rebuilt the turbo and put in a clutch but didn't replace/resurface the flywheel.

A friend of mine had a GLH omni that he wanted to sell for $800 (in 1991) I should have bought it

I have figured that cars like those (Japanese and small econoboxes) are disposible, once they get to a point where it costs to much to repair, it is junked.

I'd like to get my hands on a Mazda 323 GTX turbo all-wheel-drive!!

I think if you look around you'll find something

It's funny you mentioned this. One of my friends just bought a Colt Turbo from NJ. about a month ago. He also had one when we were in high school. I think he paid $600.00 for it. He said it needs paint, but it runs well and the interior is in good shape. Good luck with your search.

Just how fast were the Omni GLH's? I've never riden in one, but I hear a lot of good things about them.

Thanks guys, Yeah the Omni GLH's and Shelby's were much faster than the colt but its a nastalga thing I guess. The colt had a 1.6L and the omni had the 2.2L if I remember right but they were both pocket rockets. My colt had the wild 4 speed trans with the power/economy shifter which basically worked like a 2 speed rear end in a big truck. It seemed to eat CV joints though.

Did he pay $600.00 in highschool or for the one he bought a month ago? See if he wants to sell it.

They were pretty scarce when they were new if I recall. Not the fastest little cars but they would surprise you if you were caught off guard. Definately pocket rockets in the truest sense. The mid-80's round and boxy versions had the 1.6 SOHC and when they were phased out they had a 1.6 DOHC that looked identical to the 2.0 in the Eclipse.

Hi I'm confused

Why is it that the guy looking for a Colt turbo has to first apologize for doing so ? There are tons of great cars out there in the world. We all like the cars that speak to us. You might think that the Grand National is the greatest car ever made, and as long as you think it is, that's all that matters.
To the guy looking for the Colt turbo, I can only say "Good Luck !"
After a 24 year search, I bought a Colt Turbo yesterday that is without a doubt, the finest in existance. A black "Pocket Rocket" edition to boot (200 made)
I say, stick to turbo Buicks my friend. Chances are you will never acquire a Colt turbo, and as with mine, having an intercooler and free flow exhaust, you may never beat one either. Good Luck in your search !

I thought this thread was dead years ago... I started the thread. the "ONLYTINTOWN" was my loggin back then but I couldn't get in at some point so I created a new account.... I guess I appologised because I was looking for a Mitsubishi made Dodge on a Buick site. I've seen how they flame people for such things around here... My Colt was the 84 black and gold "pocket rocket" edition as well. I think I still have a couple of the gold beauty rings around here somewhere along with the black wheels. I think I bought a set of aluminum mags for it then. I've found a couple of the 84 turbo colts on Ebay but they were always too far away or way too expensive for me to buy. Good luck with yours...

!

As for those beauty rings, I might be intereasted.
My car has the original wheels, but is currently sporting a set of custom made Cosmic rims from England. Contact me if you want to let those gold beauties go. James :)

I'll look for them tomorrow. I know where one is laying on a bunch of old parts with the "turbo tech" tire still on the rim. I remember having two of them left (not sure where the other two got to). I think the caps are still on the wheels too. I'll let you know. On second thought why don't I just keep the rings and you sell me your colt:smile: . Do some trading on my regal?.....

Holy Zombie thread. A guy who just bought a colt turbo reserrects a 3 year old thread and starts smack talking in first post.

I looked at colt turbos when they were new and ended up buying a 5,0L Mustang, because it was much faster.

Here's a clue for you, since it appears you don't have one.

Colt turbos are "1984 Fast" they aren't "1986 Fast".

The sooner you realize this, the better off you'll be.

Smack ?

Hey UNGN !

I would have said the same thing if I had just bought a pink Geo Metro convertible with an automatic. Isn't that what we all do (?)
In all honesty, my Colt turbo can barely handle the power it has, and the torque steer is so bad that the car steers with the pitch of the road. It is probably the reason most Colt turbos were wrecked. It is still my favorite car and it was well worth the 24 year search for the right one. Mine has never even been in the rain and spent the last 20 years in a heated garage.
I did drive a Grand National in San Antonio ('87 ?) when they came out and loved it, but always prefered cars that were sleepers. I owned a 1966 Mini Cooper 1275 S when I was in college if that's any indication.
As this is your forum and not mine, I will work on my manners, or start my own forum. Don't visit it mine though. It will be a place where my car will always be faster, blacker, and better than yours. :) Peace.

Huh? What place? Yeah, his econobox Dodge is faster. This clown must be smoking some goooooood stuff..haha

I think there is a difference between "fast" and "fun fast". Not that going 140 in a straight line isn't fun because I know it is, but I've owned both cars and in the quarter mile the GN whips the Colt turbo but that doesn't take anything away from the fun factor of the Colt. The colt turbo spools up so quick that you can't change gears fast enough and that is part of the fun. It isn't always about who you can or can't beat it is about having the car that you want, what ever it is. If you have a GN or what ever it may be, there is always another one that is faster and nicer than yours...Always. And as to whom this forum belongs, if we are members here it belongs to all of us wheather you have 3 posts or 3000.:)
