Does removing the front sway bar help that much?

Hi,
I have calmed down a bit,but the point stands. 20 inch wheels are not gonna cut it if you want to do normal driving things like parking in a tight spot, etc. YOU need to get rational about these things. I'm sorry I blew up, but I can't apologize for what I believe is the truth. It's your car, but I think you have a legacy here, so it would be nice if you treated it as such. Good luck with YOUR choices.

the "legacy" has pretty strict standards buddy, one of them is uhhhhh no whiny lil girls in 83 regals talking down to guys in rediculously fast cars. tool

swat bar

I removed mine last year and it felt a little loose at first, but I got used to it. I keep 10psi in the left bag and 20 in the right and it handles fine to me. About the whole rims deal. I've only had my car for a couple of years, so stock look is fine for now, but I can see my car getting a set of cool 17 or 18's down the road. imo Good luck, Dave

Here are my observations removing the front sway bar on my car making mid-11 passes and mid to low 1.6 60' times:
My average 60' did not improve more that .02 - .03.
I was, however, able to pick up the left front tire a couple of inches without the swaybar wich was cool.
My car has the ORIGINAL stock 21 year old suspension and shocks.
Driving without the front swaybar is not enjoyable so I usually have it on the car.

If I were you I would try it. If it helps great, if not put it back on. It only takes a few minutes to remove it.

Who drives these cars for handling anyways? Didn't think so....
Um, some of us do!!! and it's alot more of a blast on a auto x corse than going in a straight line!! I like my car, it handle's awsome on the street and can hang in the turns with vette's, srt4's ect! I love it when they look in there mirror and they expect to see me back, just to find out i'm right on there bumper!!! and i can drive it right to a auto x corse and put down some killer times, and go right to the drag strip and do a 1.60 60's at 7.0@99.8 in the 1/8 that's with (Low boost, Low timing!) and drive home with the A/C on

PS: 3rd picture "HAS THE FRONT SWAY BAR ON" Not bad weight transfer WITH the sway bar!

My front sway bar is off, I'm running the H&R bar in the rear, handles fine...

Scott,

I saw your car at BG, nice graphic's on the paint. Great pic's... are you going to Ohio next month for the Nationals?

Chuck

Thanks for the compliments guy's! Chuck i don't think i'll be able to make it, iv'e got too much planed this year. Iv'e got Pink's All out in bristol in two wks and then iv'e got the next "Run Through The Hill's" event here in TN where us pro-touring guys get together and run the car through the hills of TN then to the drag strip and then to the auto-x, 3-day event one right after another. and next year i might go to the year one event instead of BG for some road corse action!! It's nice to have a GN that does it all !!!

I didn't think so but when you said 1.57 w/ current set-up it made me curious

" quote"also this is with the skiny and fatty weld drag set up not the 20's of course.. dduurr " unquote"

When I was running LS1 F-bods, I removed the front sway bar and it help greatly with the weight transfer, helping plant the back tires.

Does it make THAT much of a difference? No, but the car handles like CRAP without it. I mean it rides like an old 77 new yorker with 400,000 miles on the stock suspension. Unless you're doin low 10's or under, there's no need man. Really. To sacrifice total and absolute ride quality just to yank a tenth off of your short times, is not worth it in my opinion. I don't have a front sway bar on my car now, and it drives like absolute trash. I can't stand it.

My car handles great with the 20" wheels and current shocks and springs. And I have been hi 10's with it and I have cut the best of a 1.57 60 ft with current set up. But I want to see if I can lift the front with the trans brake and say 15 lbs. Would the sway bar inhibit me that much by being there? also this is with the skiny and fatty weld drag set up not the 20's of course.. dduurr

I have a larger after market front sway bar and was able to lift the front with the trans brake and 25 lbs. I enjoy driving my car to and from the track @ some high speeds and would not want to do that without the front sway bar, so have not ever tried it . Your car looks great, even better with the 20's IMO. I have always had the attitude that its my car and I will do WTF I want.
