My buddy has a 87 GN with a very well built motor. Since new, once in a while it runs great:D and they very next time he "sticks the throttle" its sick. He thinks the downpipe is hitting the frame rail, would that cause the knock sensor to be set off. Just a dumb thought that might work.

I was trying to figure out false knock problem, and that was the first thing everyone told me to check, so its likely that's the problem

Yes the DP hitting frame rail will set off Knock sensor... replace motor mounts and add tie down strap.

I've got Kirban 3" downpipe. It's close to the frame now. That's probably the knock I get when the car shifts. Never thought that would set off the knock. Anyone have a suggestion on good engine mounts??
