What do most of you guys with 200's drag race (1/4 mile) your car in, drive or overdrive?

I leave it in drive. If I put it in O.D., it shifts into O.D. at about the 1000 ft. mark and bogs down a little.
 
D if i put it in OD it will hit right before the lights so i hold it in D
 
I start by shifting it into manual 2 with the t-brake launch (stage right). I then manually shift the 2-3 at 5900 and finish at 6200 in 3rd. You should not be in OD. Its a 33% drop. If you are your converter slip is too high or your gearing is wrong.
 
so you guys are saying youve gotten wot 3/4 shifts without backing out of the gas and with a properly adjusted cable.what size boost valves?

I was getting a WOT 3/4 with my 200-4R (BQ valve body, custom trimmed gov, .500 boost valve, TransGo VB kit) when I had it in the Chevelle.
110-115 mph, WOT shift to 4th, converter would lock, and 140 mph would be there pretty quick.
 
i have found most wont do it above 7/8ths throttle without jumping right back to 3rd gear
 
Mine did it stock and even after the rebuild that included a .500 boost valve.
 
Mine would do it when it was stock.... properly adjusted TV cable as well....
 
the answer to your question is it depends on the combo in the car.if using a 342 gear and a 28 inch tire drive should be faster.if the car is geared or 342 on a 26 inch tire you may be faster in od at the very end.this also depends on motor combo as well.checking your sig,i would say you should be faster in drive,as the cam and turbo will move the power more up in the rpm range.hope this helps good luck!
 
I would also add that with your combo and a 26in tire you might be out of gear in D but w/ a 28in tire you will be fine for sure
 
I run mine i drive and let her eat. As far as the shift to OD at WOT I installed a Art Carr High Tech Valve Body kit and after that the car would shift to OD at WOT before the install it would not.

Two Questions

1 - Why would the trans NOT shift from D to OD under WOT conditions?

2 - Does anyone run out of gear in the quarter? I've got to imagine above 120mph in D is every bit of 6200 RPMs or more depending on converter slippage.
 
I know a lot of the 700r4's wouldnt do a WOT upshift into over drive. I was also told to race in drive rather than overdrive and only use overdrive IF needed as there is more pressure directed to the clutches. Is this true? Not sure, I suppose a trans guy would be able to explain it better.
