I want to put a ground strap from the lip of the tank to the frame. Is it safe for me to drill a 1/4" hole in the lip with gas in the tank? :o

Put a braided ground strap that I got from a buddy who is a Ford Parts manager and it had a clip with teeth in it that simply clipped onto the corner of the tank. No drilling on the tank needed. Sorry don't have the part number of it. Was a few years back that I did it.

The rear corner on the drivers side of the tank should have a large piece that is bent up a little. Plenty of room to drill a hole.

I drilled through that flap; just put a piece of wood behind the folded metal so you don't poke through. For once I didn't have to learn something the hard way. :p

Thanks everyone. If I can find a sturdy clamp I will use that; if not, I will be drilling. If you see a news story about someone blowing up their car while drilling near the gas tank, that will probably be me.

Most hotwire kits just come with a clamp. just scrape off any undercoating or paint and slap it on there.

Drill? Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can get a proper grounding strap from Casper's for a buck or 2. Racetronics will probably sell you one for a buck or 2 also.

If you can't wait you can probably get 1 locally, from a dealer, an auto parts house, an electrical parts house, whatever.

Why in the world would you ever drill a hole in a gas tank, guys????????????????????

OK, OK...no drilling. I will find a clamp. Also, thanks for your warnings of concern about my stupidity!
