This past summer I bought a Subaru Legacy for my back and forth to work car and today we got snow dumped on us. That car is amazing in the snow. I had a 06 tundra with the off road package that got around better but for a car I was very impressed. I have about a foot to a foot and a half of snow in the driveway and the Subaru drove through it with ease. I took it to the grocery store and did some drifting in a empty parking lot. Man I am really starting to like this car!

If you get some snow tires it won't be any fun... The subies really hook with the snow tires.

Subaru's Rule!!! I am 90 miles north of Pittsburgh. We have over 20 inches on the ground so far and its still falling. The car is a tank. Mines a mint southern car with only 103k on it. It a 92 and its perfect. I love it.

I bought my Subaru Outback Turbo when I lived in New Mexico. It was excellent in the snow, especially when we would venture onto the backroads in the mountains. Folks would be stoppped putting chains on their tires, and the Outback had yet to even spin a tire.

I miss my '04 WRX wagon, that car was fun when I lived at 7500 ft up in the Rockies west of Denver...

A little snow in New Mexico:

We have an 04 WRX wagon and it's a blast. Unfortunately, summer tires don't always cooperate in winter conditions.

My legacy has all seasons on it and am so amazed with it. I can't imagine if it had some snow tires on it.

I still like K-cars in the snow! LMAO! Call me old fasioned... but an 85 Reliant Wagon will blast through snow as deep as the top of the bumper for as long as you want it to, and glide over drift's well above the hood for a good 100ft if you aren't silly and slow down for em!

I had an 80 Regal that would run through the snow like nobody's business. Didn't like Ice though, would get seriously squirrely on ice.

Haven't really shopped for a good snow car since I started driving 4x4's in the winter. May have to try one a them Subies! Our scoutmaster sold me his Durango, and kept his Subie. That may be saying something...

Last thing I remember saying to the wife was that she didn't need the AWD mileage hit year round for the three days a year she might need it. On those days she could keep her happy tail in the house and warm.

My wife used to be scared to drive in the snow. In 2000 she decided to try a Legacy GT wagon. She loved it. Has been driving Subbies since. Now in the middle of a snow storm she'll tell me she's going shopping. Say's its the best time since no one is out. I just laugh. Went from Chicken Little to Road Warrior of the winter wonder land. The 2011 Outback she has now is bigger and she's having a harder time with it. Next time she may need to go smaller. 2 things I hate about the '11, the backup cam resolution stinks, it's all fuzzy and the bluetooth hookup for the phone is terrible to use. My Nissan took less than a minute to set up, the Outback won't automaticly hookup with my wife's phone. They need major improvement there. Winter mileage drops to about 19 around town from 24. Highway we've seen a high of 34 on a level road steady 60mph.

the best winter car i've ever had was a 78 Caddy El Dorado.. that big torquey 425 driving those 235/75/15 front tires was absolutely unstoppable.. it was like driving a leather couch around during a blizzard..
the AWD Astro van i had for about a year was pretty awesome, too, as was the 88 S10 long box regular cab 4X4 that i swapped a TBI 350 into- i only got to bomb around in my back yard with that because i never got a title for it, but it was crazy how deep i could bury it in snow drifts and just drive out. i even used it to pull my 81 Ford F250 4X4 out of my driveway once..
