Well, I work at a Pontiac dealership and we got our first Solstice GXP in today! HOLY CRAP! For a little car, this thing gets the mail. NO turbo lag at all, it just spools and pulls hard. Only problem...car was an automatic. We kinda beat on it, but it was one of our employee's personal cars and he gave us the okay...does 130 in a heartbeat.

Price wasn't bad either...had chrome wheels, air, power seat, limited slip, remote start, dealer installed spoiler, leather, 6 disc radio, XM radio service, performance brake pkg, automatic, and the red stitching on the wheel, shifter, and seats $31,300

pretty slick! Glad to see GM is still putting some effort into performance vehicles other than the Vette

I like the looks of the Skye Redline better, the Solstice looks like a microscreen razor. Both of these cars are suppose to fly, can't wait to see what the aftermarket does with these cars.
P.S. How do you like your '06 GTO
There's an IBM A4 '06 at the local Pontiac dealer that keeps winking at me everytime I pass by;) When I sell my '69 I'll be looking into A new GTO for a driver.

$31,300? No doubt it's a nice car but something's wrong when a 4-banger, 2-seater rollerskate costs more than a 4-seater, 8-cyl. Mustang GT. Bob Lutz pushed development of the Solstice as a way for Pontiac to offer a bare bones, inexpensive roadster. To me, the Solstice should top out at $25,000 max.

Good grief. Does this mean that the next Camaro will cost $45,000?

neat little cars - I'm sure that the fact it is a double scroll helps spool up :D I think it is variable pitch too....not sure about the latter though...
My wife wishes they made the coupe version that was on teh cover of C&D a few years back - I still have the issue

Probably. IMO, GM has missed the boat as far as pricing on most of their cars pretty much since the mid-eighties. Since then Ford has always kicked their butt in value and simplicity. I think they would sell better if they weren't so whiz-bang high tech. Every new car magazine loves the IRS and the GPS and the heated seats etc and it's fun to read about but I think more/most people would choose to not have them and save a few thousand dollars. If it knocked a 1/2 second off of the cars max performance, which would still exceed most drivers needs and maybe their abilities, I still think they would sell better because they would be seen as more bang for the buck when the buck was not as much and more user friendly when you don't have to mortage your home for a tune-up and repairs. Save the really luxury-high tech stuff for the Corvettes and Cadillacs which are usually purchased more to show off rather than to take off.

few points to make:

441120---I love this GTO! Drives like a BMW, has a perfect interior, awesome stereo, and stupid amounts of power in every gear. The best part...you don't have to beat the hell out of it to have fun driving it. Just that feeling that if you wanted to rip the tires off in 3rd gear, you can. I love the seats, the shifter is dead on (except reverse) and I don't think it looks bad at all. If you buy the A4, don't ever drive the M6 or you will regret it.

Madhat--GM does not offer the coupe version, but I have an aftermarket contact that is doing this conversion. Don't quote me, but I am almost positive that it runs around $2200, which includes painting the pieces and installation. Looks kinda like the old 60's Daytona coupes from Shelby.

Meanbuicks--As I said, this is the ZO6 equivalent in the Solstice line, you can still get one around $21K and the Turbo car starts at $25K with alot of standard crap, this one was topped out with everything but the optional embroidered floor mats  and yes, the new Camaro will probably run $45K if you load it up....this is the world we live in, everything is expensive, not just GM's fun cars. People don't think twice about dropping $50K on an Expedition or Lexus SUV, they buy what they like and most of them never pay for it anyway!

The average sale price for a car in the US is ~$26,500 so the Solstice is not out of line. As others have stated - you can get a base Solstice for $22,115, the GXP turbo starts at $5k more. Plus it is a miata figher, not a mustang fighter!

A base mustang GT is $26,370 and with every option is over $38k!! (not the Shelby)

The Camaro will probably be priced roughly the same but should offer more than 300hp to fight the GT. A Z28 with a LSX motor will probably be high 20's low 30's with a decent amount of options.

It will be a daily driver so no M6. I've thought about it, and as much fun as 400hp/400tq with a six speed is, I can't take the noise from the right seat that I'm sure will start when the clutch is dumped a little too aggressive.
A4 for less headaches:rolleyes:
