Anybody wanting to dual boot your laptop to run DS? PM me for details and I will do yours like I did mine.

Just another option.....

DS will only work with windows 3.1, 95, or 98. I want to keep the windows2000 on my laptop for normal use and have the ability to boot up in windows98 when its time for DirectScan.

So... Direct Scan can be used in other forms outside of DOS??? I have direct scan, but don't have a lap top yet so I haven't ever used it!!

For those of you thinking of using DS on newer laptops; CAUTION: Your laptop of choice MUST have and support a parallel printer port.

For everyone who has PM'd me on this.... here is what I replied to last night.... that tells you basically how to do this...... it is a real PITA...... but can be done..... and as Dave said.... you will need a parallel port..... which I believe isn't standard equipment on newer laptops.....

From my PM reply to someone wanting to do this to a Vista laptop.....

It is usually more work than most want to fool with..... you have to wipe the entire hard drive clean.......and create a small partition.... say 1 gig......then format it fat32..... then load win 98. Once 98 is up and running.... you can load vista from scratch..... creating a second partition that is usually the rest of the hard drive......and installing Vista on this partition.

FWIW... I've never done a Vista/98 dual boot but it should work the same as XP.....but I can't confirm.

You will need a parallel port on your laptop.... which apparently a lot of the newer laptops do not?

If all this sounds like too much work.... you can try powerlogger..... it doesn't need a parallel port or Win 98..... it will run on the newer operating systems.

Hope that helps.

Hope this answers some basic questions.......
