Which one did she end up getting? The Sony 350 pink one? Or a different one?

I've primarily gotten my books from the Sony E-reader site. Couple tricks

1) look for the BRAND NEW books that in the store are running over 25 bucks for a hard copy. Those ones are normally less then 17 on initial release on the site...so savings there

2) look for the sale books and the bundle packs. Sale books will be from 99 cents to 5 bucks on average and the last package I got was 11 bucks for two books from an author I like.

3) there are links to different free books other then the Gutenburg (SP?) project which is all the public domain books (these are the ones that include Frankenstein and such..though I will say, some are very good and worth the read), do a search for the free ePub books and you should be able to find 'em.

4) come to peace with the price of a eBook being close to that of a paper book and just look at it with the fact that you won't have to store the paper book anywhere. (this is the one I've embraced...but mainly 'cause I'm Navy and got tired of packing an extra 20 pounds of books with me when I go to sea..so the ereader is perfect)

As far as the library thing goes I don't know. I haven't used that function myself. Though I believe the library basically buys a certain number of 'rights' and can only check out that many. I know that when you check em out that the copy you get has a degenerating code to it which doesn't allow you to keep it after the 'due' date...or something like that.

I will say this about price..they HAVE come down on average since the ereaders came out. When I got my first one years ago all digital books were the exact same price as in the store. Now they are normally AT LEAST a couple bucks cheaper. They will most likely continue to drop as more and more authors and publication companies get on board with the trend.

Over on my motorcycle forum we've been discussing many things about the various aspects of the readers and eventually delved into the matter of books...

here's some quotes

Disclaimer...

Some of the links may contain other links to copyrighted material. The ones at the top of the list are most likely to be legit.

There are plenty of truly free books out there and also plenty of 'illegal' materials. eBooks are currently going through a little surge on the pirating front so please use caution and your best judgment when searching for free books.

though the end is where we started talking about the books specifically.

When I have a real keyboard in front of me I will tell u about which one she finally settled on( women).... Or atleast why.. But it was the literati

No problem. Those tips are good for all the stores. Surprised bout the model she went with though. The color readers really aren't e-readers because they have a back light and a refresh rate. Those are the two factors that cause eye strain and headaches when you look at a computer screen too long. The whole point behind e-ink is the lack of those two factors.

Does that book support ePub? Couldn't find that on the site I looked at.

I hope you realize the original Frankenstein is a true work of literary genius.

If not cheezy movies are easier to download.:p :)

I got my wife the Nook color for Christmas. We have been "checking" electronic books out of the local library system.

Our library has a feature that allows you to "reserve" the book you want if it is checked out - you should check if your library allows this.

Also - I imagine the restriction on checking the book out to multiple users is a "licensing" restriction.

It is really a nice feature being able to check out electronic books for free. I've been catching up on some books from Clive Cussler and John Grisham.

I had to give up on Clive Cussler because the main character..even with a different name...was always the same and the story always followed the exact same pattern. Liked him for awhile though. :(
