ecm or alternator?

While in wot my tlink sometimes reads crazy readings, like mphs being way off and to much knock. It pulls codes saying the ecm is bad amoung others. Is this common when a ecm is going bad?

I got a whole bunch of "bad PROM" error codes when my ccci went out, along with a host of other weird errors. Not saying that's what your problem is but it's worth checking

Switched chips so its not that. Trying to borrow a friends ecm today to see if thats it.

Some other possibilities:
  1. Weak/bad grounds on back of passenger side head (motor torques over and pulls on the wires)
  2. Weak quad driver in ECM
  3. Electrical "noise" from the fan relay or other electrical component on the wiring harness
  4. Loose connections on the ALDL connector (assuming ScanMaster or TurboLink is being used?)
    [/list=1]

I'll try it Sat. The high is suppose to be 49, so it would be a good day to try it. The only problem with this is it doesn't always happen. While making some tuning runs the other day it happened maybe once in ten trys. Then it read a few codes such as the 02 and boost something, I can't remember while driving around.

Unplugged fan and changed ecm's and still getting alot of codes. Some are saying that it could be in the wiring for the ecm. Any ideas?

Also, I had tested the alternator and it flashed in the 15s(is that normal) and my blinkers act like there is a bulb out(blinking to fast) but there fine.

15 volts sounds a bit high ... especially if it is at the ECM.

Are you using a power inverter?

Tested at the alternator with a meter. Just wondering if that was high and if it would cause any of this.

I checked the grounds and they are fine. The turbolink is showing the volts going from around 13.5 to 6.5. It is also showing the car is idle instead of receiving. I had the alternator checked out and it was fine. Could it still be the alternator? It is also pulling codes like 54 and even the water injection code. I changed the chip and ecm so I know its not that. Anyone have any clues?

yes. I will try the laptop with just the battery, though I have never had any problems until this.
