Put a Red's chip I got with car in my ecm that been working fine! After chip install SES light comes on & blinks steady, car runs but not well. Pulled chip & put former chip back in and same bad result.
Put original chip into another ECM and all is well.........

My question is did I blow the ECM, damage the calpak or.....??? Later tried another ECM with orig. chip & calpak from 2nd ECM and all is well so far.

Can the ECM be damaged this way? is it worth rebuilding? is calpak bad ? if so how do I test other than process of elimination or trial & error??

Which is the weakest link , the ECM or the calpak?

Seems like 2nd chip?? and / or calpak (which was fine until new chip was installed) HELP..................:wtf:

Did you disconnect ECM power before changing chip?

Maybe there was some water in the ecm and when you moved the ecm around removing and installing the other chip it got into / onto some components causing the ecm to be damaged. Maybe if you stand the questionable ecm up on end like when it's installed in the kick panel for a few days it might dry out, worth a try what do you have to lose since you can't use it like it is.

O'Reilly auto parts has a good deal on a replacement ecm for $80.00 plus core charge with a lifetime warranty if you need one. It's a BWD brand i have one in my car and it's been working great.

if you get one from Oreillys, tell them to load "TurboBuicks Garage" account #146667 into the local stores computer. The discount on an ECM might be worth a few bucks.

Thanks guy, yes it was disconnected and it has been out of the car and sitting on my desk in dry atmosphere for over a month. I put in back in yesterday to see and still the same "SES" blinking rapidly and runs poor. Are the cal paks extremely sensitive? I am hesitant to put this one in any other ecm................

Plug it in,key on, and tap it with something all over it. Mine did the same thing. Tap test. It could be a bad soldier run. I installed another one and taped it. Its fine now. Don't get rid of it it can be fixed.

Calpaks dont go bad that often but I have seen bad chips as to rebuild your almost 30 year old ECM is not really worth the time and $$ when you can get 1 for less $$$ that what you problaby will spend on another ECM.

I have seen a few of the pins on the prom chip not making good contact with the prom holder and I would use a straight pin and bend them a little to make sure the prom chip would seat properly
