My 1996 v-6 OLDS has ODB2 ECM port.

The ECM throws the code for #6 cylinder to go off ....I have changed the #6 spark plug, new wires, & coil pack.

I have figured out the the trans has a funky shift point which causes the code to set off the #6 cylinder to light up.

My question is can you drive any vehicle with this tool attached to your ADL port permenatly with out causing issues? & to allow it from throwing the code over & over

You can drive with it as long as you need to. It wont prevent the code from comming on, but it may start recording after the code is triggered (freeze frame data)

What code is it throwing.......... PO???
Is it misfiring?

What engine is this? I know the 3100 V-6 has had issues with the fuel injectors making the engine miss. Especially with higher mileage. Also Ive seen a couple of 3400 V-6's with the same problem.

Does it sound like its missing? If it is try to unplug the injector wiring for #6 and see if it makes a difference. If nothing changes with the injector unplugged you might have a problem there.

It is a 3.8 series 2......

It does ahave a ton of miles almost 150k. Runs strong like a bull.

Maybe a little FI cleaner might help the injector.

I will get back with the code tomorrow

Does it have the upper plastic intake manifold? Im not sure if that year 3800 had that style manifold. I worked on a 99 3800 Buick Regal and it was a common problem to ingest antifreeze. The EGR tower in the lower manifold goes through the upper plastic and burns a hole thru the intake itself. That will lead to eventually flooding the entire engine with antifreeze.

Pretty easy fix, but im not sure if that year car used the plastic one.

Good luck.

My codes are 442 & 1380

The 442 is #6 cylinder

1380 is trans fluid/vavle bady needs cleaning & new fluid.

I think these are what they are.

i have changed over 5 of them in the past 3 years due to warping/cracking
very known for those plastic manifolds on the newer buick 3.8s

Is there and easy way I can check to see if mine has failed?

pressurize the cooling system with a tester see for visible leaks or if your antifreeze level is going down and check the oil to see if theres anything in it and see if theres white smoke usually the manifold will cause the smoke before any headgasket problems
