Hey I just bought a 84 grand national with 80k on it and i need to replace the exaust, the car has been sitting and its all rusted out. i want to keep the car mostly stock but do want to upgrade the ecm and fuel system and injectors. can you guys out there give me some ideas, this is my first grand national and all my past rides have been v8 cars with carbs. the car just rolled 80k when i bought it but it needs a few things so in the process i want to getting going a little faster.

i have been reading around the forums and see that a lot of people upgrade the ecm to the 86/87, is this a plug and play thing? can a buy a ecm thats for a stock intercooled gn and install it with out mods?

also what am i getting into upgrading to the lt1 maf?

sorry guys for the ingnorance but this car is a gem and i want to upgrade it correctly.

Welcome aboard. Yes it's pretty much plug and play with a few additions. As far as the exhaust get a cat back system. Go to the general section and do a search for pypes. A poston pass side manifold is a good upgrade and G Body down pipe. You can also get a better turbo But do a lot of reading and searches. Ask question and don't just take my advice. Others will chime in as well but sometimes it takes a while.

you can probably get an ecm from your local junkyard for $50- they were used in a lot of cars besides the turbo Regals. it plugs right in place of the stocker.
then you need to order a custom chip- TurboTweak seems to be the one to get these days and only costs about $85.

Welcome aboard!! Lots of info in the "sticky" at the top of the page, read through all of it--take your time and will probably answer alot of your own questions.
But don't be afraid to ask...we've all been new to this at some point.
