Well not for the weak of heart, converting over to the 2002 F-Body Brakes are well worth the effort, IMO.

The fronts are rather easy to do, and the conversions have come up for sale, here on TB.Com. It uses the stock spindles so it's just a matter of unbolting, and reassembling things.

The Rear are a bite more complex. The one Downside, is that the frame needed to be mini tubed for them to clear. The emergency brake isn't a bolt. But, they work much better then the stock drums, or PST rear disc conversion.

While I'm currently using a 84 Regal's Master Cylinder, swapping to a 92 Trofeo's M/C is in the works. The Trofeo is the late design, fittings on the correct side, and 1" bores. Oh, and it has a low fluid level indicator in the tank.

FWIW, I'm using a vacuum booster in conjunction with the above.

I'm going to start gathering parts for this conversion. I'll get some G-body spindles and rotors to get myself started. I really like the 12" brakes. Here's a bunch of info with links for anyone interested..........enough to wet your whistle. ;)

are there any other brake upgrade options for those of us that love our stock '87 GN wheels so dearly we'd rather not have to put something larger on to run this brake upgrade?

Go to SSBC.com

They have a upgrade kit that fits in 15" wheels.

LOL, Sorry it must be spelled out on the web address...Search for Stainless Steel Brake Corp.

Got a link for the conversion in front, Bruce? Who is selling the parts?

It's looks or being able to stop. Sad, but true.

You can put swap calipers, but that doesn't decrease the amount of heat put into the rotors, or brake fluid. In fact it makes both worse, so while intially they might feel good, unless you keep fresh brake fluid in the system, in fact your playing Russian Roulette. That is to say, you can go for a while with things being OK, but when you get to where you cross the threshold of starting to actually boil the fluid, and then they get dramactically worse.

For stock wheels, it is hard to put any BIGGER brakes on. So you are limited, as Bruce says, in what you can use to dissipate heat. But you can put improved rotors on, which will help a little. And you can use high coefficient pads- Raybestos has some, as does Hawk, and EBC. They prob'ly wear the rotors faster, and if you drive in the mountains or otherwise use the brakes a lot, they would probably heat up even faster than the stockers. But for driving on the freeway, where you just want to stop fast, and not hit the car in front of you, they will be an improvement.

gbody parts makes wider GN and T wheels. i think he needs to make some larger diameter ones now :D everybody wins:cool:

Why do you need to have mini tubs to make the F body rear brakes to work?

To get the calipers to clear the frame rails.

I've mentioned that mounting them on the rear of the axle, with a stock height car, they **might** clear.
