EGR block off

I've seen on some modified factory cylinder heads where the EGR is blocked off with either aluminum or lead. I was told to beat lead into the EGR port then file it flat with the intake gasket surface. Is this correct?
Seems like lead would melt... thanks . Steve

I dont think I would pound lead into it. I would buy a blockoff plate and put that on instead
