Hmm.?

I noticed that the solinoid was not plugged in on Friday so I plugged it back in thinking it was forgot about during some maintanance last week.. Heading out to the track my gas mailage seemed horrible! (Just going by the stock garbage guage, didn't acctually measure consumption)

Anyway my times at the track were pretty crap and I was hoping for a lot better. Looking at the engine I thought what if I unplugged this...? So I did, no codes and I ended up getting some better times..

Now my question: I figured that I SHOULD get a code if the connection was disconnected right?

Drove home with it disconnected and milage "SEEMED" better. Does this make sense at all?

I would guess the reason for your experience might be because the egr is blocked up with carbon. I took mine off, unplugged it, and it never coded.

Having it unplugged shouldn't set a code. If your chip is not programmed for the lack of EGR operation you might get part throttle knock. It's not operating while at WOT so why not leave it connected and in good working order..?

Doesnt thrasher delete the EGR stuff in the chip to make room for bells and whistles?? If so, it wouldnt make a difference if it was plugged in or not.

That would also explain no EGR code....

Jim.. From my experience, it won't code even on a chip that uses EGR. At least none that I've tried.

I didn't notice any increase/decrease in knock either at part throttle or WOT.

Also took out the EGR filter last week and it looked brand new. If this is something that has to do with my fuel economy I want to figure it out.. My fuel economy is HORRIBLE!!

typically 6km per liter of gas. :o

I don't have the EGR on my car but have the soleniod plugged in and stuff and it will throw a code every now and again..seems like if i'm on it then get off the throttle quick..then stopping at a light will trip it...it does it more when its cold and damp out

The EGR execution, and diagnostics in the GN ecm are poor.
As well as how the EGR is even used, code wise.

Either leave it operational, or get a chip that's designed to run without it. Just unplugging it, nets you about 10d more timing then you really need. That results in hot spots in the chamber, and high oil temps.

I've broken 30 MPG, a couple times now, and to do that I have to do some cruel things to the engine timing and fuel wise. I'll trade engine life for a few MPG...

Are you running the Thrasher?
Not meaning to slag Thrasher or to offend people that are using them... but try a Jay Carter, Jim Testa, or Ramchargers chip. You will be much happier in all areas. Yes the Thrashers idle nicely and spool pretty good, but the design is pretty old (flame suit on) and a lot of new chip technology is available in today's chips. (Just take a look at Bob Baileys latest version of the extender chip)
Personally, I got horrible mileage with the Thrasher. Not because of the chips fault, but because I wanted to put my foot in it more to enhance the giggle factor. I switched chips, kept the giggle factor, got way better gas mileage and much more top end pull.
