I don't have a way of increasing boost for the 1/2 area. I can only set the boost to come up at one level, not two.

Who sells a good wideband and how much?

Thanks.

Innovate sells a good wideband from what I understand, also, techedge, and FJO, but I am very partial to the Zeitronix unit. I have had great luck with it in all of my cars. They range from mid $300 range to over $700 with all the bells and whistles. The Zeitronix unit comes in at right around $400 without the optional boost sensor, egt probe, ect...... Good luck, Drew

No no no.. I was saying raise Boost & Timing :D

Especially when you have a computer that drops "X" amount when the MAF hits 255.

You have ways of adding additional boost in lower gears... maybe not on your car with what you currently have.. but there are ways using boost controllers/solenoids with air jets/ etc... Timing can be added via the chip .. but all this you have to be creative.

FWIW the factory chip on our cars did such a thing thats why there is 3rd and 4th gear scaling for the WG solenoid on your passenger VC. I'll leave ya with these bones ;)

The WB is a neat tool. Any tool that helps you see and understand what is going on is a neat tool.. you cannot have too much in this dept when trying to get your setup sorted out. Once its sorted out.. man you can fly on a simple scanmaster.

Fastest 109 block car in the land runs on a scanmasterII

The BSTC works with the stock wastegate system and has 3rd gear scaling features, relatively cheap at $129 or so on sale.

Then again there's nothing wrong with 1600 EGT's either. ;)

this looks like a prime time to ask a novice EGT question..

not a twerbo Buick app.. rather blown Dodge app..

are you guys mounting the EGT sensor in the collector or a primary tube?? how far away is to far from the head??

I am thinking that besides my wide band for the FAST.. I wouldn't mind confirming tune with EGT sensors in each header..

I have mid length ceramic coated headers on the truck now, and am assuming that the probes outta end up in the collector.. but am not positive.

One other, potentially dumb, question is will the temp be lower without a turbo in the exhaust pipe?? I honestly don't see it being lower at a given AFR while spraying methanol, just curious.

Ryan

The distance from the exhuast port will affect the EGT readings. As well as how much energy gets to the probe.

So placing the egt in the collector will read a lot lower than next to the port.

Best is placing an EGT at each port, then datalogging to see how temps are being produced to make adjustments to individual cylinders. But this costs $$$$$$.

Really trick is one WB sensor per cylinder like the Formula 1 cars do.. then sending the information via RF to a control console where adjustments are made remotely to the engine management system making the most power.

For easy, put the egt in the collector. Tune the motor on good gas so no spark knock is happening.. then pull back on octane keeping the same numbers. Any knock and the egt will climb.

cool thanks.. this will come in VERY handy soon.. I just had a SERIOUS about face on project priority..

R/T is about to be "retired" and left as is..

I just won a bid on aluminum, dual plug, raised port aluminum alky funny car hemi heads.. :D

soooo..

blown aluminum block/heads Hemi here I come!!!! Engine will go into a 53 Studebaker chassis/body combo with Zoomies.. every blown Hemi needs Zoomies.. Paxton Novi3000 will do the huffin' and puffin'..

figger with methanol wide band O2 tuning is about out the window, so I will be tuning via EGT's in each header primary. I am thinking I will be using BS3 on this one I think.

As soon as I get the heads here and start checking them out and get them ready, I will get the block on the way, and start assembly on it.. can't wait!!!!!!!

will be hittin' up big engine EFI questions on occasion and more EGT questions as well! LOL

I love this site for tech info on tuning..

I went to the track last night to try running with lower EGTs instead of 1600-1620. Lower EGTs did not work well at all with my car. I ran 24# boost with 1490 EGT and the car only ran 91 mph. I leaned it out to 1590 at the same boost level and the car ran 94+ mph. Guess I will stay with the higher EGT.

Read your plugs too. Get a plug that looks excatly like what your best runs were and match the color to the new tune. This is older school, but it helps.

Razor - has this been your experience with turbo or N/A? And how much different? I tried moving my probe one time from 2" from the port to the collector (these were 30 inch long tubes on a turbo header) and saw exactly the same number. It wasn't what I was expecting and have wondered how many others have tried it?
