http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/parts-sale/217209-sg1-short-block-low-miles.html

I bought this short block from Mr. Anderson and it had multiple problems and i've tried to work this out with him a few times but he doesn't want to take any personal responsability for it at all.

He told me to place this in the feedback section, so i took his advice.

It is beyond me how someone can advertise a short block in the condition that he did, you can read it for yourself in the link above. Then when it arrives there is anti-freeze residue on the crankshaft throws and walls of the crankcase, 3 bent piston rods, and the camshaft thrust area is worn .040" deep. and then deny any of this is his fault. I was getting my car painted and didn't get around to installing this until a year after i bought it. And his excuse was i should have contacted him earlier and not have waited a year before doing so. But like i said i didn't know until a year later, when i went to install it!!!

John

Well here we go again with this guy. I pulled an engine out of a relatively stock car that drove 2 hours plus to get to my shop and listed it for sale and this gentleman purchased it. I installed a double roller chain on it and sent it to him. There was no wear on the thrust surface as he claims.
He contacts my shop A YEAR AFTER the purchase with a story about a worn thrust, green antifreeze droplets on the crank (dont know how that is possible with a stripped down DRAINED SHORTBLOCK) and a multitude of other problems. He was OFFERED A REFUND at this time if he sent it all back to us however he refused since he had a rebuild in the works at Jim Bobs machine. He wanted ME to PAY for his rebuild, thats right A YEAR AFTER HE BOUGHT THE ENGINE! Absolutely ridiculous! I didnt fall for his scam (he ran the engine for a year and then broke it!) and now he is bitter, follows me around on this board in an attempt to ruin my reputation. I didnt fall into his trap so he leaves me a NEGATIVE feedback TWO AND A HALF YEARS AFTER THE TRANSACTION!!!! You dont stay in business for nearly 20 years and continue to expand in a piss poor economy by ripping people off! You obviously cant do enough for some people, you be the judge.

John, did Bill offer you a refund? I can kinda see both sides here, its real hard to go back on a purchase thats a year old.

1k. For a short block that needed 3 rods and a fresh-in up ! Thats a deal !!! You should call bill and thank him !!! I mean with the heads cam turbo and all the other goodies your runnin ? For a grand i would have took it right to a machine shop and had it fresh-in up. So you have what $2500 in the short block ? Thats cheap!! I've spent big money for 1 pass .sometimes more !! But when you build a car to be fast ! Thats the racing ....

I dealt with Bill Jr. and Sr. many times with no problems whatsoever. I also bought a used hood and was unable to use it and I returned it no questions asked. My 2 cents.

I have bought from Mr. Anderson a few times...he's an upstanding, caring guy. Even his wife helped me out over the phone with some mechanical problems I was having at the time. Sold me top quality parts and were as he discribed. Bill is a top honest man. I understand his point in you WAITING TOO long to file your complant. I've never seen anyone returning money after all that time. You had a year to resolve this, so, regardless, it's not Mr. Anderson's problem anymore. He DID offer you a refund. How more caring and honest to his customers can he get? Sorry, IMHO, you don't have a casse at all. I've never heard of Bill screwing over anyone in all the years I've known him to exist. I would buy the Brooklyn Bridge from him if he had it for sale.:) He's that honest.

No he did not offer any refund. I wasn't asking for a refund any way, i wanted the short block that i bought that he advertised in the thread.

He has been on the defense about this from the first time i was able to talk to him on the phone. At which time he told me he didn't know anything about where the engine came from or any history about it, but now he all of the sudden knows what the enigine was taken out of. If the engine was in a running car that drove into your shop why then would you disassembe it and sell just the short block when you could've gotten more from selling it as a comeplete running engine or as a long block?

I didn't buy the short block to go racing with. It was my intentions to be able to have a reliable running low mileage engine to cruise around in and enjoy having a semifast car on the street.I have a lot of good parts on the car but thats just how i wanted it. I'm 52 years old and i have been on a drag strip 2times in my life and i don't beat the heck out of any engine or car, thats not how i drive.

That could have a lot to do with where you live.

Bruce,

Is this the Bill Anderson you know. that will call someone a liar and will call other machine shops names that he doesn't even know. I didn't buy from him to make, an enemy. Is this any way to resolve an issue that a customer has with you. All i did was buy a short block that wasn't as he described. If i sold someone something and they were not satisfied i would at least try to work something out with them without it becoming an issue. But i'm not in business so i'm not sure how a person thinks that does run a business, maybe he is running on a shoestring budget, i don't know.

If he offered you the refund then you are wrong. If he didn't I gotta wonder why he would lie about doing so and it would appear that he is hiding something. Unfortunatly we don't know for sure what was said between the two of you.

You did wait a year though. Next time check your purchase when you buy it.

Think about it..... Go buy a sandwich from Subway, call them a year later and tell them the bread is moldy. They tell you to bring it back un eaten for a FULL refund. You tell them that is not possible because you ate all the meat off it and EXPECT them to just buy you another sandwich at another sub shop. They refuse so you decide to explain to the world how you were done wrong TWO AND A HALF YEARS after they sold it to you. A little ridiculous huh???

Thats a lie, I offered you a refund, you declined and said it wasnt possible because Wilbur already had it apart and you wanted me to PAY HIM to fix it! When I know there was nothing wrong with it to begin with.

I did everything I could to make it right by offering your money back A YEAR LATER. That was not good enough for you.

This is the Bill Anderson that I know. Sorry, but in my honest opinion you just waited too long. Bill has never lied or called me names. Always has been a straight forward guy. His parts are top notch. Sorry you feel about Bill this way, but you should have taken his offer of a refund, even after ONE YEAR, that was more than accomodating. I've never had someone or a business offer me this type of solution after all that time in my whole life. You should have not waited so long. I cannot understand why Bill would sell you a piece of junk...his reputation is too good for that.

Oh, forgot to ask, John, did you check this block when you received it the day you got it from Bill? If these problems were evident at the time of receivership, why didn't you let Bill know the day you looked at it? I can't understand why so much time, then problems. I'm sorry to hear about all of this, John, wouldn't it be prudent to accept Bill's offer of refund now? If he would stil do it? Don't know, I assume Mr. Anderson is just as upset as you are. Try calling him and work something out? Getting close to Christmas...love thy fellow man. Most things can be worked out if two people can listen to each other, be nice about it, explain each side, go from there. Just wondering.

Off subject, Merry Christmas to you and your family, John.

After thinking about it and reading the responds, I believe Bill. After a YEAR to offer ANYTHING AT ALL shows he is an upstanding seller. Plus how long it has been overall? Let it go. You are in the wrong.

Wow... Sorry for the OPs trouble. But come on... I'm not trying to just be a d!ck here... But buying something like a short block then not touching it to even inspect for quality of product for a YEAR.... Who does that?
