Are the electric water pumps for the TR's a good hotrod (can you say horsepower) part? Seems it would take a bunch of hp to spin the stock pump at 5000 rpms or for that matter at any rpm.? What about longevity, efficency? Anyone running em on the street?

I have run one for 2 years without problems. The life of the unit is rated for 2000 hours. If you were to drive at 55 mph it would last 110,000 miles, but in the real world there is alot of city traffic and idling so you could cut that in 1/2 at least. The biggest improvement is an instant 10-15 degree cooler running motor at all speeds, and no temp fluctuations. Also during racing in the pits with the fans turned on i can cool the motor down between passes in about 3 minutes, compared to about an hour.

Now for horsepower gains i can't see it doing too much, its peobably in the real world worth .5 mph/.05 et. But if you can keep the motor cooler it does help also.

Now for the disadvantage. You have to use a underdrive pulley on the crank to make it work, reducing alternator output and a/c cooling at low speeds. However i am in the process of making a larger diameter pulley to make it work better. You can't use the stock crank pulley since the belt will hit the side of the motor. I need a list of people interested in these custom pulleys. The more i make the cheaper it will be. So if your interested in one email me at norbz@sympatico.ca

Do you have pics of your set up? I was considering going to a Meziere, but didn't realize it would cause a clearance issue....

Are you using a 12 Volt motor to drive the stock water pump ?

I have only pics of the current setup using an aftermarket 25% underdrive crank pulley, and you can see the problems you run into if you make the pulley to big. This has nothing to do with the stock electric pump fc227 its with the aftermarket meziere pump.

So talk to me about this customer pully you are going to make.... is it between the underdrive diameter and the stock diameter? What will it be made out of? I'm definately interested. :)

It will be made of billet t6 alumimium. I will have to see how much it will be to hard anodize it . Yes, it will the maximum diameter that an be used, but there will be no provisiion for a stock intercooler fan as of yet , for those asking. Its going to be trick since you don't want to end up with a pulley diameter you can't get a belt for also. Once its all figured out I could sell you the complete kit of belt and idler, alternator pulley to make it a simple install. Please email me to put your name on my list of those interested. I will be going to my machinist this weekend to discuss this.

Ok, e-mail sent.

I was planning on using the RJC set for weight reduction. 2 questions:

1) Will the alternator be a different diameter to compensate for the difference in the crank pully?

2) will these be lighter than RJC's pullies?

norbs, will the atr race crank pulley work with this? also i have the smaller alt pulley.

whats the diameter of the ATR pulley?

ill check the diameter, but it has the intercooler fan attached and it isnt much bigger than the diameter of that thing.
