has anyone ever converted one of these etcc units to a slide switch stock type ac/heater control unit and would anyone know if they are both wired in the same in order to make a switch?thanks very much-matt-----my unit is not doing anything-hardly any air and warm at that, even when calling for cooling.

The wiring harness under the dash would need to be changed...And I think there is a circuit board in the engine compartment/heater box that would need to be different for the slide control type dash...

Is you temp indicator blinking??? If you have the factory service manual, there is a troubleshooting diagram for the etcc...Try emailing Jim Testa about what is going on...He should be able to help you out with fixing it...Post in the General tech section where a lot more people will see this and be able to help...A lot of times it is the above-mentioned circuit board that is bad in the engine compartment/heater box...

thanks very much jim-does that circuit board just control the fan speeds-if so i have low, med, and high down on the heater vent on the floor but i dont get anything out of my dash vents-matt

I think that the door(s) that open and close to redirect air from the floor to the dash vents to the defroster vents are vacuum controlled...Either that, or there is a cable or plastic part under the dash that is broken or misadjusted...I know that if you search the gnttype archives or post in the general tech section here on the BB, that someone will know how to fix it...I've seen it discussed on the gnttype list before, but have never needed to do it...

Yes, I think that the circuit board does control the fan speeds...there is a resistor on that board that goes bad and causes all kinds of problems with the digital climate control dash...The etcc is excellent when it works right, but a PITA when it doesn't...

As I've mentioned before, Jim Testa knows a lot about AC and the related systems on these cars...He'll be able to answer your questions alot better...

I have a spare climate control box if that is your problem ,It has all the vacum lines on it if your still having trouble.

thanks for all your help-i pulled the box out and didnt see any vacuum lines -only wire connectors attached to it,i will have to pull it out again tomorrow and have a better look.i ll keep everyone posted on what i find-thanks again-matt

LOOK AT THE BLACK BOX UNDER THE DASH WERE ALL THE WIRES GO TO, THAT IS WERE ALL THE VACUM LINES ARE.

yea the control unit just controls the black box behind the glove box, tells which solenoid to activate. been there done that.
p.s. the black box must be bolted up to work, must be level
