NADA is more widely used in the industry, as it factors in the standard equipment on a given vehicle more realistically than KBB.

As NADA is also used by financial institutions to establish values for loans, I'd say that the numbers listed above are pretty realistic.

The worst by far comes from within...

When GN and T-Type owners have over 100k miles on their cars in average condition and think they are worth $10k to $15k.

From an insurance standpoint, they are. Are you walking up to someone trying to buy their pride and joy while for 5 grand? People in general don't want to get rid of something for less than they could replace it for.

Example:
I bought my car for 4k. The body still looks like hell, but total, I have around 11 in it. I've had the car for 6 years, It was my first car (bought @ 15), and dd for 3 years. I've replaced everything that breaks on these cars, good tranny, ect. My car realisticly is worth 6k due to a rusty body. The memories are worth way more than that TO ME. It is my baby.

Now, when some a-hole walks up and says "Hey, I'll give you 3 grand cash for your GN", I usually say "15 grand FIRM" They walk away, and about a year later they come up to me again. Then I tell 'em "18five and it can be yours TODAY!!!"

I'm sure you meant the ones that are actually ADVERTISED for sale. But if I had a dollar for everybody that walked up and tried to buy my car for nothing, it would have a show quality paint job by now;)

Had to add to it

Len's daughter Jessi here.
I"m in highschool where every guy thinks he knows everything about a car.
Soo....
the other day I was sitting in class with my stuff on my desk, and the guy sitting next to me sees a pictures of my brother, Tim's, car, on the front of my binder.. 2 shots.. a rear shot during a burnout.. and one of under the hood.

Guy: Hey! That's one of those....er... one cars..

Me: (confused)... uhm.. a buick???

Guy: A what??? No.. its.. uh... A Monte Carlo.

Me: (holding a laugh) Oh really...

Guy: Yeah.. I know what they look like.

Me: Don't doubt it, but that there is a Buick.

Guy: No, look.. look at those lights.. and shape...

Me: *points to the turbo* So whats the turbo doing there?

Guy: The what?

....-_-

... Can't help it.. This next one had me laughing all day.

In a different class.

Me: Yeah, that's my brother's car, it's a buick.. *points too pictures* It's fast..

Kid that overheard: haha fast? That piece of junk? Yeah right...

Me:*glare* huh?

Kid: My dad could beat that. Easy.

Me: With what, a bat? Cause I doubt he would with another car.

Kid: You just wait and see. This summer my dad's getting a Scion.. and he said those things are fast outta the factory.

Me: Okay, wanna race this summer..

Kid: Okay, but don't cry when he beats you.

Me: Tell him not to cough in my dust.

A stock Scion...a.k.a. a stock box.. lmao..

When GN and T-Type owners have over 100k miles on their cars in average condition and think they are worth $10k to $15k.

I've got 166,000 on my 86 and wouldn't take a dime less than 11k for it.

I have 208k on mine and wouldn't take less than 10k for mine. I have a guy trying to buy it now for 9k and I won't do it. I may sell it for that much if I put it back to a somewhat stock setup.

I had to take the car to the insurance company for an estimate on the damage that was done by wilma, and the guy doing the estimate was a "gn guru". He said, "do you know why they stopped making those?" I'm thinking that this should be interesting. I said, there were several reasons why they stopped making them. He said, that some guy owned the patent to the v6 motor, cuz the gn's had different v6s than all the other buicks, and the guy wouldn't let buick use his patent anymore! I said, no the main reason was that they went away from RWD and none of the FWD cars could handle the power. Him - "no the guy wouldn't let them use the patent anymore" Me- "Oh really, I didn't know that." He hadn't given me the estimate yet!

I've got 260,000 on my 86 and I want take less than $1M for it. Its not worth much more than the sum of its parts but I've had it for over 20 years. Sentimental value is priceless. People just dont understand that when they ask if its for sale. I'm going to my grave with it.

Sentimental value is priceless.

Exactly, my GN was a gift from my parents when I graduated college. I remember being on the lot and my Dad pointed at the Skyhawk T-Type and he said 'What about that one?" and he couldn't believe I wanted that black 'gas guzzler'

You can always get another GN, but not the one that has memories attached to it.

Must be nice, I think I got a cake! ;)

My grandparents bought me my '77 z28 back in '87 (both have since passed). It has no retail value, but I'll never get rid of it.

Did they pay for your college tuition as well?

I had to pay my own college tuition as well as purchase my own GN. Still paying student loans for the next 20 years. My GN has no sentimental value since I recently purchased it. It is super clean and bad ass, but I'm using it as a daily driver. I'll just thrash on it for a while and sell it later.
