looking for reliable engine builder in northern Illinois , any suggestions ?

I just went through this same thing. Thanks to some of the guys on the board, a couple options I came up with were:
Windy city- 773-254-8113 Talk to Darrell
Speed Svcs-773-545-1616 Talk to Brian
I spoke to both of these guys and they both sounded like they know this engine. It was my impression though that the guys @ Speed Svcs were a bit more in tune to building it strong for performance. Unfortunatly, I did not use either of these guys since I decided to re-build totally stock and I have a neighbor that has a side business and has re-built these before. So I went with him. If you want to built it stock, I would reccomend my neighbor, it cost me $2800 and he replaced everything including doing the heads. If you are interested in that let me know I can give you his contact info. His is in Downers Grove.

Lonnie Diers is close. Cincinati. I would use him over anyone local in IL. My $.02.

You are not that far from Dan at DLS.
Wheatfield Indiana

Yep Lonnie built my engine. Should be here tomorrow or friday. 249" Stroker!!

thanks for the responses , I am not building stock , have a problem with what I have now just don't want to pull the motor out yet , was looking for somebody locally to me to drive my car to and listen to the noise I have after STUPID ME installed accel high output coils from Jegs that caused major backfire under high load ,now I got the noise

Be forewarned, Only go to Lonnie if you want the very best product with the very best customer service from a guy that stands behind his work %100. :D Lonnie really is amazing. I don't have one of his engines but I do have a trans from him and it rocks. He's a total straight shooter that won't bs you about anything. I can't say enough good about him.

What town are you in?
Most of the Buick engine builders closed their doors here in the Chicago land area. You may have to track down the noise by your self. Lots of possibilities, cracked headers, torque converter bolts, rocker arms, lifters, belt tensioner bla, bla, bla. I have even seen the crank sensor hitting the reluctor ring and make a ticking sound. Maybe try taking the belt of first and see if the noise is still there.

Looks like you had your share of problems before and you know what you are doing. What is the hot idle oil pressure? Did it that change after the back fire.

A Alert Auto

I Would Try A Alert Auto In Chicago He Has Build Many Buick Motors
In The Pass, Just To Let You Now He Has The 06 Caddy With The Gn Motor In It That Ran Mid 11's .he Was In The Show Pass Times On Speed Tv With His Car At Great Lakes.i spoke to john from casper electronics about him when i was at his shop. which he gave me the thumbs up with a alert auto

First of all, be warned that all of the top builders are swamped with work, and your engine will probalby take months to build. The good builders are cheap. Having said that, I went with Lonnie Diers too. His customer service is unmatched.
Lonnie is also a really nice guy too. I know that may not seem important, but it is when you consider that you are dealing with someone who you will be handing $1000s of dollars to. Having someone you can relate to and who will listen to you is imperative.

Ditto. If the time comes for me to build a motor, it will be through a experienced Buick guy from this board. I have read way too many horror stories with supposedly Buick qualified local builders. Not saying they are all bad, but I would not take the chance with what is at stake. My $.02.

Same here Lonnie also done my engine, tranny, and tune. Had been through other builders and got alot of shabby work at other places. Lonnie is a A-1 builder that is honest and does great work!

You are about 60 miles from me I think. I have a good friend in your neck of the woods, he is very familiar with the turbo Buicks. Let me see if I can get a hold of him for you first.

My cell is (630)965-1987 or (312) 887-1950 office.
