How do I go about getting some aerosol spray cans of paint to match the factory color on the alternator, intake, timing cover...etc?

What about the parts of the alternator stator you can see?

What about the frame rails that you see from the engine compartment?

Some big automotive paint supply stores around here will color match and/or mix you up a batch based on your cars color code then stuff it into and aerosol can.
you can also buy refillable aerosol cans so you can buy the paint by the quart or pint and spray away.

restore color

Eastwood caries about anything you can imagine for spray can restorations etc.

Duplicolor

The duplicolor spray cans work real good, Ive used the semigloss black on frame areas and the engine parts they have engine enamel that will withstand heat in the colors you need.

+2 for Eastwood. I used them for many things on my cars engine bay...

Detail Gray looks great on the silver parts. I painted my front cover, water pump, and trans with it.

The intake was powder coated but here is another shot of the front cover and water pump on the engine..

They also sell a spray gray that is a little darker gray and also looks great. If your going to order from them I'd get a can of each just to see what one you like better. It's a toss up as I like the shade on both of them.

For the frame (and sorry for the poor cell phone pic) I used their chassis black. Looks great.

Chassis Black

An absolute must is buy their product called PRE. After cleaning the parts really well you spray it down with this stuff a few times and wipe it off and the paint goes on and sticks very nice. Well worth it for sure.

So those products and a little powder coating your engine bay can look like this in no time!

I'm in the process of assembling my engine and I'm going to detail the engine bay so I've be experimenting a little myself. So far I like the Eastwood Aluma Blast for that fresh cast aluminum look, it's good to 300 F. For the black metal brackets, I like the Duplicolor Semi-Gloss engine paint. Haven't tried the Eastwood Chassis black yet.

restore

Eastwood does have a wide variety of product that I have had good luck with you can check out my pictures on this site and see I'm no stranger to this kind of work

Thanks Blazer406! I want to see some pics posted up here when your done now!

One thing I've noticed about Eastwood's spray paints is they go on so damn nice. Almost seems like there is a self leveling agent in their paints because even if it goes on a little thick it still dries nice and smooth. I've used spray paints from all over and nothing goes on, lasts, and looks as good as the Eastwood stuff does. Make sure you buy extra because it's hard to stop once you see how nice it goes on and looks! :D

WOW that looks awesome
Do you even drive that thing?

lol thanks! Drive it??! You crazy! That will get all that get dirty!!!! :D I actually squeezed about 1500 miles on it this show season. So I do drive them as much as I can. I rebuilt the engine, trans, and rear so it's nice driving around in a GN with a fresh drive line! Feels like 1986 all over again back when I couldn't afford a GN because I was just getting out of high school!

I'm afraid you are making my project take even longer..... I've been battling engine issues with no extra money for 4 years...... and now that I have a new bullit to go in..... you come along with all this eye candy!

Great job on yours for sure!

I am going to look into some of the Eastwood stuff. Mine is real clean.... just no fresh paint.

That's me always raising the bar! :D Pappa always told me.. "do it right or don't do it at all!" lol Now keep in mind I did all that in only a few months on a tight budget. Lot's of research buying the right products and a lot of doing it your self goes into it. I have a really fast and cheap powder coating guy as well so that helps.

The real killer for me is Eastwood is only about an hour from me!! I could walk in that place with a shopping cart and fill it up. They also have a damaged table in the store for stuff that was damaged in the warehouse. Wow that table can put a dent in your wallet! You know us Buick guys always looking for the deal of the day! But yea all in all I'm very pleased with Eastwood products all around.

For the black plastic pieces like headlight bezels and taillight bezels they sell a paint call trim black and it's the cats a$$ for that stuff. I've seen guys paint their inner wheel wells with it and it looks amazing.

Here is some more eye candy for you guys to enjoy as I always was the pic whore! lol Some guys don't like that "wet" look but I love it. Really makes the engine bays pop on these cars when they are all detailed up. And yes I did install a new overflow bottle since these pics.

I've seen Jim's car at several shows. He drives it and it looks fantastic!

What did you use on the Turbo heat shield, Jim? ((Sorry to Hijack))

Hi Rich! Thanks for the kind compliments!

I did ceramic coating on the up pipe, headers, cross over, and turbo Shield. The nice part about ceramic coating is you can polish it. The more you polish it the more it looks like chrome. Plus ceramic is coated inside and out unlike powder coating is only one side typically.

Does Eastwood color match to a sample or OE color code?

hmmm not sure on that. I know they sell a wide range of power coating product that they can color match. Shoot them an e-mail about the spray can matching. I have someone local to me that can do it. Small body shop supply house if it's a color your really having a hard time with I can try him. They have a camera they take a picture of the sample and the machine spits out the color match. I did it with the dash gray and it came out dead on so I know it works. You can even add your own sheen to it. I did it with a satin sheen and it came out great. But if your stuck we can always try that!

Thanks for the reply
i was asking just to know,
i have a local paint supply that does the color matching and code color mixing.
thanks again.
