What type of damage does an engine that has been in a car fire typically receive to the internal components, can they be rebuilt or is it scrap ? I'm asking because a buddy of mines garage caught fire and the car is a total lost but he was wondering if it was worth going through the trouble of pulling the engine and trans out before the car gets hauled away.

Aluminum hates fire. Depends on how hot the engine got. If the car is completely torched I would say its a total loss.

currently cutting it the F loose

It was a all steel big block chevy, guess we will just pull it and maybe open it up or just drop it off at the machine shop and see what they say. Hate to just send it to the scrap yard if there's a chance in saving it. Any internal parts made of aluminum ?

The engine and tranny should be fine.

Even if some trash, water of other material got into the intake, there should be no internal damage.

We recently removed a 109 from a totaled Regal under-hood fire which was doused for 10 minutes to put out a fuel leak fire, and the worst thing we found was a little oil in the pan. Lots of wiring and other parts toasted, but the engine and trans has no internal damage.

I would agree. Plus the fire didn't start in the engine.
