I had machine shop do all the work to my block, rods, pistons and heads. Turned crank, line bored, honed and magnafluxed the block, resized the rods, decked the block and heads, installed new seals and magnafluxed the heads, I put the motor back together with a hydraulic cam and stock rockers. Also with a full gasket kit I have 1800 or little more in my motor. But all of my parts were good except crank needing to be turned. I just wanted a pretty much stock rebuild not a whole lot of power. Like mentioned above depends on how much power you want and your goals. Doing a lot of the work yourself saves some money.
