I hear Bill anderson is top notch, builds Cottons engines, must be good. ;)

Can anyone recommend a reputable rebuilder in Central California? I'm only interested in a stock 86TT rebuild (long blockish) not a Dominator 1000 full drag racing engine.

You know, I've rebuilt several engines and I don't see why I couldn't do this one. People just make is sound like you have to slaughter a goat and appease the gods or the engine will implode. I was thinking of having the shop at least assembly the bottom end. I just want it stock with some simple durability improvement.

Problem is, it's got 143k miles and runs great. That falls under the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it rule". At 120k, all of the bearings and timing sets were changed. Only the pistons and heads haven't been touched. Uses about a pint of oil in 3000 miles. Nothing out the tail pipe.

Maybe I'll leave it for a while.

If you own a GM service manual for these cars you can do it easy.Just take your time and read and reread all the specs and triple check them.If you do remember to prime your oil pump and run that cam in at 2200 or so rpm before letting it idle. These cars do best after a rebuild if you change the oil frequently.I ran mine in for 30 minutes then changed the oil, then let it run a little and changed it again. You would be surprised at the metal that comes from breaking in a cam and lifters and rings.
