i need to find a really good turbo buick shop to build the hell out of my 120k mile motor! haha, about time to build it.

anyone know of good shops? and how much for the build? im mainly looking for the long block to get done.

ANS in Melrose Park does top notch stuff. A full In House machine shop, parts actually on the shelf, and a large shop w/ 2 racks and a dyno gets the job done right.

Pete at ANS does great work, but be prepared for a long wait..He is doing my motor, he has had it since March and it still isnt done. I guess if you want good work you have to be patient.

pete at ans he was slow on work but he hired help and a secutary so he gete the work done. he did my friends head gaskets in 1 day. no other shops around here though

ANS Performance highly recommended. Done my 109 block, full roller motor, steel eagle crank, laced with steel caps, diamond pistons, etc..... Has full in house machine shop, Very knowlegable. Motor has great oil pressure. As far as ANS being slow, It took a little time, but for the quality of work that he puts out it's very well worth it. My bussiness will go back to Pete from now on. Thumbs Up for ANS!!!

so for pete at ANS to do my motor, a fairly good build im talking...how much am i looking at spending....

Depends what you want done. I would say $5K for a pretty stout motor. But the price will vary a lot depending on what you get.

- I'm also local, and going to be building a stout 109 short block over the winter...ANS has been recommended highly, But I do want to keep $ down, so I too am going to be doing some research. My bottom end build will consist of prolly the RJC Girdle, TRW forged pistons, file fit rings, stock crank and rods, and a solid roller....I'm thinking that maybe I'll get the parts on my own, then give everything to Pete for machinework and assembly???

I don't wanna spend over $2,500.00 on the bottom end (Cause that could get me 5 stockers to blow up)

Anyway, I'd be interested to know if anyone has had another local shop just do the machine work on their 109 with successful results at a fair $?

You will not keep the cost down when it blows up. There are many reputable shops that claim to be able to build/machine these motors and in reality, they do not know the tolerences to keep the high HP motors alive for any period of time.

Remember that, and consider your time worth $$ and the trips to the track, missing events...... So, you spend another 2k and it lives for a long time, or don't spend the 2k and it blows up, then you have to pay to have it done again. Remember, these machine shop guys will ALWAYS have a explanation for why something fails and charge YOU to fix it right.

USE A BUICK SPECIALIST. ANS and most of these other guys charge what they do because the TIME it takes to get it right.

ANS- Melrose Park
Street Perf- Elg Grove Village
Rockford Racecraft- Rockford
Precision Turbo & Engineering- Hebron, IN
Speed, Inc.-Schaumburg (don't know any buick guys who have had work done there, but I've seen quite a few Buicks in their shop)

Don't waste your time going around looking for a shop, they will get you one way or another, just have Pete do the work at ANS. He has been working Buicks ever since they came out with the 3.8 turbo. You tell him what your goals are and he will get it done for you.Why go any where else when it is right in your back yard. I have seen so many out of state motors being built at ANS why do you think that is? he knows these motors pretty well and he knows what works and how to make them fast.

my $.02
