I've spent the the better part of last year trying to get my suspension changed, replace the core support and body mount bushings. Finally got all that done and put some new tires on it. So after driving my 86 Ttype for about a month, I started getting this weird sound when I started the car. Not when its running, only when I start it. It almost sounds like a hollow piston sound. Anyway I decided to pull the starter this morning to check it out. It's been years since I had to change it so I realized shortly after pulling the wires off that I had to pull that exhaust crossover. Never had any problems pulling that before, but one of the bolts decided to snap right the $%# off! If that wasn't bad enough it was on the passenger side
So there was no way I'm getting a drill bit up there to get that shank out so I can clean the threads. I know the only way to proceed is to pull the exhaust manifold which means pulling the turbo out. I figured that I pulled that turbo out back in winter of 2007 with no problems so this shouldn't be too bad. Well....I figured WRONG. Every single mount bolt attaching the downpipe and turbo to the manifold broke off...even after giving them a dose of penetrating oil. Its all out now so now I have the task of finding the parts. The turbo is original and the oil shaft seal is shot and the shaft has some wiggle to it. I've planned on replacing the turbo and now seems like a good time to do it. I want to keep the car pretty close to stock as I can since its my 200,000 + mile daily driver. I know I want to go with the TE-44 turbo. Do these turbos come with all new mounting hardware? The three studs and nuts that held the turbo to my manifold are toast and the two bolts that held the downpipe to the back of the turbo also have to be replaced. If this stuff doesn't come with the new turbo, does anybody know where I can get these items? I prefer to get something that will be easy to remove in the future if I have to unlike the crap that I just destroyed. Lesson learned. I should have replace that stuff back in 2007 when I had the chance.
