Hey guys, just finished converting to the 6.1 alky chip, 60lb injectors and LC-1 wideband. I've had trouble with the downpipe flange leaking in the past but didn't worry too much about it before installing the wideband. The surface of the downpipe checks straight but has some slight pitting. I cleaned it up with a roloc disc and then spent a little time on it with a file. I installed it with a smear of ultra copper around the sealing surface on both the turbo and downpipe. Tightened it finger tight and then after an hour torqued the bolts as per the instructions on the tube of ultra copper. I guess I should have waited 24 hours before starting it but after about 4-5 hours I couldn't wait to road test the new setup. I waited til the second day to get on it and sure enough it blew out the seal at the very bottom near the wastgate puck.

At WOT will this leak affect my wideband o2 readings? I'm thinking more so in the mid range. Any tips on making sure it doesn't leak again when I reseal it? Do I need to take it to a machine shop to have the flange cleaned up? I'm attaching a few pics. Thanks guys.

You can remove the offending part and have it machined flat, which can be costly up front or purchase a gasket which you will have to use each time. Rjc sells a gasket for the match up. $20.00 I don't think the leak will have any big effect o2's but it's best to seal it up.
