i picked up a pair of china headers fom guy who said can't seal leaks. there has been extensive mods done to try and seal leaks at connecting joints.does anybody think that using that fiberglass tape or even header wrap around the conections then clamping together might seal it?any advice will be appreciated
thanks

How Cheap were they?? And you get what you pay for. Are you sure you just don't have extra time on your hands to ***k with them. That's what I read.
Are they already re welded? Sounds Like It. What gaskets are you using(assuming you are, which I would think) Are they Flat or warped? If warped to bad or say AT ALL. Chuk them! Why waist your time! Can you check(not hard)...How many miles on them? Why would you buy them if they were from China, Hongkong in the first place? Have they ever sealed? How thick are they between say stocks and ARP headers or stock replacer's between ports?Difference wise.

Okay, we'll start from there. LOL:biggrin:

BTW: there are many vendors here that have headers or stockers. You could have put the money you spent on the ones you got from China towards a good set off the bat.(hidesight is 20 20 though) Check the Venders section or I can Name a few if you need. If your serious! I'm sure others will chime in. Best of Luck.

they were FREE. so why not waste a little time to see if i can stop the leaks at the connecting joints were the headers are connected to the pipe that runs under the motor. how long would it really take to just try and wrap them with the glass to see? just loooking to get feedback if anyone has bothered to try this or not or if anybody has any other ideas.they look pretty damn new and don't appear warped ay all but haven't had a chance to cheak the flanges for trueness yet, will get to that later today. p.s. before busting my balls you should find out the whole story. i know there alot better out there and i'm almost ready to pick up a set, but as i said they were FREE

There's allot of guys that will bust on something from china because that's where the crowd is at right now. The funny part is the same people have $#%! from china all over there car, house, body, ect. and most have never even touched the product they are bashing they just bash away because they saw someone else do it. Don't let it get to you. You knew what you where getting into and some (myself included) love making things work. Where are you leaking at? If at the V band joints have you tried a higher quality band than was sold with them? I've heard mentioned that some of the chinese headers out there come with really crappy bands. If at the slip joint then a regular band style exhaust clamp should do it. If any flange is warped just go to a machine shop and have it trued. It'll only cost a couple of bucks. Other than that they really shouldn't leak. Let us know if you've tried any of that and where exactly they're leaking. I know you said connecting joint but I don't know what ones you're talking about. Wherever it is it should be a pretty easy fix. FWIW I don't think header wrap is going to hold any pressure. Or are you talking about laying it flat like a gasket on the v band joint? Let us know.

it looks to be leaking at the slip joints, like they won't seal all the way even with the clamps. there is carbon all over them like it was blowing by. my thought was to wrap a few layers onand then before it dries clamp it. figure it might work because there isn't much of a gap. guy just said they were leaking and he got tired of hearing it.maybe a high temp epoxy? j-b weld? if i can just get them to get me thru summer, i will be able to pickup a kickass set in winter. car is getting a few upgrades and will need to be tuned anyways. figure if i can tool around and they bump a few horeses why not. i still haven't figured out my no spark sit, since i recovered it but have it narrowed down to either esc module or ecm. car has factory security(but not chipped key) i have read that it should only kill starter not spark. landlord of my garage had ahole tenent who got his elect. shut off and tried to run his apt. off the garage and blew the box. just got the guy out mon, says will fix this week, went 2mons. nopower could't do much without light so i bolted on what i could with door open and natures light bulb.hate doing that, to many people can see what i have, already been taken once!
thanks for the feedback

Wasn't try to bust any balls, just inquiring and/or giving suggestions you can take or leave. If they were free and you got TIME then go for it! Best of luck, let me know how it works out. :)

BTW if there's enough meat there maybe you can get them welded cheap, or J/b weld I use all the time on other things it works pretty darn good, although I'm not sure if it would take the heat.

Question: does everybody automatically read a post with a bad attitude or what? I apologize for not putting J/k after the china coment. Your right on that though. It seems to be the consensus and stereotype of today's world but where metal works and such they don't come out very strong. I was asking the QUESTIONS too Get more info, that's why I asked them also so others wouldn't have to in order to help. Sorry for not being an English major or a come across christian.(which I try to be). I thought the little happy icons and the LOL represented how I felt. Sorry for opening my big fat yap. Best of luck. :(

Well if that's your opinion then why sit here and ask for ideas? Go see if it works.

Give them time they will start to leak again...

Been there done that.

2 friends of mine have had them modded, cut, rewelded, new clamps, etc etc etc. 3 different sets from different ebay vendors
They will seal for a while then start to leak 1 guy hot tired of pouring money in them and pulled them off put the factory headers back on and his wife almost wrecked the car due to the boost coming on so much faster since the leaks were gone
