Ever since I purchased my GN I noticed something about it. The exhaust stinks. My garage smells nasty. I tuned it up, new spark plugs and wires, New coolent temp sensor. I figued that maybe it was telling the comp to dump too much fuel in and it was running rich. What do I know... I'm no a mechanic but just dabble. Anyway any sugestions .
Thanks

Mine does the same.
It runs pretty much right on the numbers
it is supposed to, but still smells of gas.
Do you have a cat converter on it ?
Mine does not and some on the board have mentioned without the cat they seem
to smell of gas.
One person, if i remember correctly said his did without the cat, put the cat on and it cleared right up.
Thats what I have read on here anyway.

Not having a cat will stink up your clothes. Also depending on what chip you're running can do it too.

Move out of NY and things won't stink near as much.

Way to easy.

Cat is most likely bad. You'll need to have it checked to see if that's the issue. Does it smell like rotten eggs, like the rest of the NE?

Stink

To be honest it doesn't smell like a cat. No rotten egg smell. Its more like unburned fuel .... Like running rich kinda. I know its not running rich though.
Man...... I can't figure this one out.

Do you have a scan tool? If so, see what the BLM's are @ idle.

If you have a cat still and it is functioning properly, you should not have a fuel smell at idle. Check your BLM & O2 MV at idle and report back.

I guess I'm the only GN owner without a scanmaster. Never bought one. Looks like its time.

Check and see if your oil smells like gas, that would be a sign of the ecm dumping fuel, but scan tool is best

I'm going to pick one up. I'll report back. I have a freind here on the island who has a national. I'll temporarily hook his up and see whats up. That will work till I purchase one.
Thanks

I posted a thread a while back about my clothes smelling like gas fumes after driving. It was so bad i thought I had a gas leak, I checked every line a could reach and nothing was leaking. I noticed that I always smell fumes once a back the car into the garage and walk through those fumes coming into the house. Once I parked outside it wasnt noticeable. I do not have a cat on my car though.

When I had this problem my BLM's were pegged @ 160....I chased vacuum leaks etc, mine turned out to be a bad injector.

No not the original owner. Only had it a couple or months. No way really to tell if its been hollowed. Had it up on a lift and visually it looks fine. The previous owner didn't tell me much on the car. He bought it and stored it for years. I gave it a good going though and now I drive it every day the way it should ( Baring bad weather). Still smells though. I have a guy coming over to with a scan tool or something. I forgot what he said. I get back to you guys.

If its all stock or has a older chip in it then thats probably the reason its stinky rich. Get a TT chip and be done.
I have changed countless Reds, ATR, etc chips that would gag you out of the garage at idle especially when cold, leave black carbon soot marks on teh floor from the exh, tip in stumble, etc.

Changed chip and walla all good.

This is assuming the TPS, IAC, coil pack, tune up, etc is all in perfect working order
