Just wanting to confirm the reseach Ive done, I am running a Tial 44 mm wastegate AMS500 with a bailey 2 step, I have the strage 1 or launch setting at 2 which I thought would give me maybe 3 or 4 lbs at launch...which is not happening... I am running a 11lb spring, any setting below 11lbs the ams will not be able to control unless I go with a lighter spring and apparently going with a lighter spring will effect spoolup... then I am getting into a co2 setup

You pretty much nailed it, I have been using a Tial V44 with AMS 1000 and CO2 for a couple of years and have tried a few different spring combinations. If you are planning to launch at 3 or 4# boost then your spring selection must match it for base pressure. Running a lighter spring and no C02 will slow down the spool up because the waste gate will start to open as boost increases near the spring pressure. I am using a 16# base spring pressure with a larger+smaller inner spring. When the C02 is off with this setup the spool up is decent but still laggy, when the AMS and C02 are turned on it is night and day, instant spool up. I use 60# of base C02 with a regulator, this is the pressure on top side of the waste gate diaphragm holding the valve shut until the AMS commands the solenoids to bleed off the gas.

When I was playing with the lighter single springs and no C02 I noticed the waste gate would "flutter" I could hear the exhaust valve opening/closing when the boost would come up and it almost sounded like a blown head gasket. Depending on your setup/turbo configuration it may be tough for the lighter single spring 3#-10# to work correctly without C02 on top.

I have a 4lbs spring with CO2, and it is a laggy pig without CO2. With the CO2 holding it closed, it spools fast. I would either go with CO2 with a low spring, or run a high spring and let the 2 step control the launch boost with part throttle, the boost will stay lower vs rpm and be more consistent at part throttle.

Thanks Rob I am going to do what your suggesting with going part throttle and then look at a co2 setup down the road... I like the flexibility of the co2
