Factory Appearing Stock Tires is getting to be a very popular class at the track. I see mostly big blocks in this class. The 455 Buick boys kick a lot of butt in this class.

Can the LC2 powered cars compete in this class? I would think we could clean up. If you can remain stock appearing and run in the low-mid 11's, you can do very well. Right up our alley.

The cut off is either 74 or 76. Stock appearing would mean the stock aircleaner box, downpipe and you must run cast iron exhaust manifolds.....

I tried to get later model stuff in, but the Hemis and pop can ZL1s have enough problems with station wagon motor GS's already, they couldn't handle a V6 killin them also....;)

Hmm, I can make my THDP look stock easy! All I have to do is paint it a rusty color! :p

Yeah, what Keith said. Can you hear the complaints when a moter with two LESS cylinders kills the big bad Hemi;)

Man, we would dominate that class.

Yeah, the hemi boys already bitch about big block Buicks, they would go nuts over our cars.:D

It would take a stock air cleaner, unmodified on the outside, which means no hole in the bottom. Stock elbow and down pipe, and 215-65 tires NOT drag radials. Stock rims. Not sure about stock location muffler but maybe. Might be harder than you think. I have driven Dave Dudek's hemi Challenger and let me tell you that thing gets rolling in high gear. He is not afraid of much.

True, BUT, we could use..say.....a 49 turbo with bigger injectors, different chip. Don't know if we could get away with alky.......You can still have an internally modded motor, so cam and head work would be allowed. Traction would be the biggie. I am very impressed with how these boys can get the power to the ground with those crappy tires.

No doubt, Dudek is a badass. So is Gessler in his '72 GS.

Its not that easy, the Repo Bias-Plys hook pretty good, much better than the stock Eagle GTs. The stock airbox would be a killer and you'd have to run the stock inlet bell on your TA 66, a 49 wouldn't do it. Need to run 125 MPH to run with the top dogs.

If they would let me I'd run the GN.

I've been following the posts on the V8 board for a while now until the recent "lockdown".

Those guys haul A55 on bias plies! :D

Hot Rod mag featured a couple of the cars already and it's neat to hear the drivers divulge their little secrets into what makes them run so hard. Low 11's at 123-ish is flat out hauling in anybody's book.

Greg Gessler ('72 GS Stage 1) knows his car inside out and knows how to drive it too!

Gessler is a genius head porter. Actually, everything that can be ported, is ported on those cars. Heads, intake, exhaust manifolds....etc.

Actually, it may be easier to run those cars than ours after all in that class. It would be fun to try ti though!:)

Someone else pointed out that you have to use the correct tires, this would meen a 215-65-15 Eagle GT. A stock TR kills those tires. I`ve been to a handful of these[FAST] races, the guys who run in the class are way cool guys to hang out with. Actually it was Mike Wowk[70 RoadRunner 440+6]that got me interested in this class. So I found a 71 GS Stage1 that is in the slow process of getting restored. I will run the car in this class. If you guys get a chance, attend one of these races, everyone is laid back, good to have a few brews with, and its like watching a car show running down the quarter mile

Keith, what are the everage 60' times on these cars?

Is there some secret to getting them to hook better?

Good luck with the GS Keith! Four speed car too, that is so cool!

Mark, I think some of the racers are pulling down 60 foot times in the 1.8's which is incredible.

If you look at the contact patch of a properly inflated G60 Polyglas you can see how this is possible. Now the guys running F70's, I give them lots of credit too. From what I heard, the bias ply tire is a better launching tire because it will spin a little and then hook hard, whereas a radial will just keep spinning.

That's unreal. I am only cutting 1.7's with my Hoosier QTP's! I have to struggle with my big block car to cut anything under 2. I admire all the guys running in this class. It looks very challenging.:)

I've run a best of 1.80 60ft with Mandys GS (G60s) @ 4200lbs, the best on slicks was a 1.68. Her car is a pump gas driver so its down on power compared to Gessler and the gang, her car also has 60Lbs of A/C parts hanging off the front of the Motor.

I`ve heard Greg Gessler has gone high 1.70`s[1.78 or so]
Keith[grndnl] GS is a loaded up GS,power windows, locks and working a/c.So in other words its not a light car.His GS is another one of the cars in this class that could win a car show also. These guys are running around 40-45 lbs or air in the bias-plys,for some reason they seem to like more air .

I am currently looking at my Hemmings Muscle Machines magazin, and there is an orange ZL-1 Camaro with the old bias ply tires. He is launching and almost getting the front wheels off the ground! And you're right, the rear tires aren't wrinkling at all! Lotsa air in there....amazing.

Thats Big Dog, I wasn't at Bristol but I "heard" he was lifting the left front tire.

I run 35lbs rear and 50lbs front in the GS.

Mike Wowk [70 Road Runner 440+6] has a pic of his front tire with about 1/4 to 1/2" of air under it.On Polyglass tires:eek:
