anyone know where I can find an F-body site

I am looking for the V-6s only
some kid challenged me to a money race and I am interested in what they are capable of

thanks

Carl

Well, if it's any consulation to you, I was up at Motorsport Technologies one Saturday, when the Houston area V-6 Camaro gang had their dyno day. There were about 10 of them who tested, and I think the highest one layed down around a whopping 225 rwhp. WooHoo...!!!
I can't imagine you would have an inkling of a problem stomping the ever-lovin' crap outta one! Even if the owner had nitrous, it still wouldn't be better than a high 13, low 14 car, on a good day. I would also look at it with the thought that anyone smart enough to make a V6 Camaro run worth a flip,,, would've been smart enough to buy the LT1 or LS1 V8 version to begin with, which in stock trim would outrun a heavily modded N/A V6 version!

But, to satisfy your curiousity, go to any of these sites. This should keep you busy reading for awhile...

A V6 F-body better have all the bolt-ons and a power adder to even stand a chance against a lightly modded TR such as your own.
Most of them run 15's and slower.

HAHAHA man the 2.8's even 3.1's are high 16 low 17 second cars, not much info needed to know that you'll win :D

You can always go to thirdgen.org and go to their V6 board for info..

The quickest V6 f-body (other than the 89 TTA) :p was a high 13 second car. That was with N20.......

thanks alot guys

the reason I ask is cause there is a kid around by me with a 2002 firebird V-6

before I met him on that faithful night, I was told he had a blower on an LS1, so you could imagine how scared I was when we met at a light, turns out I blow the launch and when I hook in 2nd gear I tear by him like he was chained to tree

I end up talking to him and he feeds me lots of bull**** and such, but some of it I am not sure if it was true or not

like I realize his excuses for losing were bul**** which there were 3 excuses

1. I didnt have my switches on
2. I had 2 girls in my car
and my favorite

3. I hit the brakes

anyway a little later down the road I end up getting the kids screen name and I talk to him
he basically tells me his car would destroy mine and that hes ran a 13.3@106mph sounds like an LS1 time to me
hes basically making it like his 3.8L is superior to ours :o
he tells me he has a turbo and it kicks in at 50mph
so I was like oh yeah well what about my turbo
and he goes, man dont bull**** me you dont have a turbo, I didnt even hear your exhaust
I was like, I have a turbo and the car came with it stock, then he goes yeah but yours is weak no offense.

said he saw a GN at the track run 10s, then get this he said he talked to the guy and the guy supposedly told me that he spent 70 grand to get there, I was like he probably said 7

the only reason I ask you guys about this is that he challenged me to a 100 race in a 1/4 mile
so I wanted to see where they are, he supposedly has 280hp at the crank

thanks

Carl

I still wouldn't worry about him, when I first posted I didn't realize you meant a 4thgen V6

So his turbo "kicks in" at 50 eh?

You still don't have anything to worry about, its obvious this kid is a complete and utter moron...

Maybe he'd like to take a crack at another TR after you beat him.
Tell him I've got less mods than you, and he should take me. ;)

Cleaner13:
In the future, this sort of thread would be better suited for the Miscelaneous section, ie Turbo Lounge or Kill/Fish stories.
The whole story sounds like a clown-fest!
If your inbred opponent claims to make 280 at the crank, then he is actually making about 225 at the rear wheels, which is in line with the numbers I pointed out earlier, above. If you cannot beat something of that level with your TR, then it's time to find a new hobby!
Go take his $100, (which I doubt he has), and be done with it!

However, since the info you've provided swaggers back and forth between an LS1 and a V6, I think I'd determine what it is you're actually up against. My bone stock LS1 went 13.15 @ 105.5 in its first trip to the track, which is in line with the alleged numbers this dufus claimed. Here's a hint to verify; Go look at the back of his car. If he has a single tailpipe on the driver's side, pointing down, then the mystery is over,,, it's a V6! If he's got two factory appearing pipes, (one on each side), then in all likelihood it's a LS1. If you have any car knowledge, you should be able to simply listen to it running and make that determination.
Better yet, why don't you get him to open the hood, and it will be obvious!

I am familiar with one V6 f-body in the 12's on a pretty good size shot of N2O and slicks. There are blower, turbo and nitrous kits for them, but anyone that ads one of those should have his head examined for not buying a LS1 in the first place... but I digress... :)

Peter

see he wont let me look under his hood
however I am positive it is a V-6 as he keeps complaining he wants the 8
but the weird thing is that he has dual pipes
but they are about 1.5-2 inches in diameter not big at all
hes also an automatic

but I think I might take him up on his challenge

Carl

FYI, I believe the 3.8 liter equipped (the 3.4 liter is standard) F-bodies do have dual tailpipes. They are maybe 2" diameter and both point downward under the rear bumper cover.
Go bust his @ss. :D

Friend of mine has a '96 Camaro, 3.8 liter. Nothing but a K&N and ram-air induction (which has been changed now). I managed to get the best time out of it, two passes, being 15.32. I forget the mph, but all I remember was that I had the same exact ET both times. They're quick for what they are, but they're not "fast" by any means. You have absolutely nothing to fear.

Run him for $200. ;)
