Last night, I took my 87 GN home and parked it, throwing the PDL switch to "LOCK." Before I could climb out of the seat, the alarm started going off, so I disarmed it from the driver's door lock, then confirmed that alarm was reset, and started the car "just to be sure."

This morning, NOTHING. When I key-unlock the drivers door, the "SECURITY" light starts flashing at me when I open the door. I have tried RE-arming the alarm (solid light), then disarming with the key. Switching the PDL switch to "LOCK" give me a solid "SECURITY" light, and switching the PDL away from "LOCK" gives me a blinking light. Turning the key in the ignition causes the dash to light up like it should, but the "SECURITY" light keeps blinking away. Also, when I turn the key, the car doesn't crank/ turn over at all. Is there a simple fix, or does it need to be towed? Help?

i woyld unhook battery let it sit for a minute then hook back up and try again

Thanks. I did that...probably for 10-15 minutes before reconnecting the battery. As soon as I reconnect it...its the same routine.

Try re-arming the system solid light and then setting it off by opening the drivers door manually.

Once the horns and lights sound and flash re-set the alarm to off again.

If it doesn't start after that you probably have to get under the car at the starter to start it, which can be dangerous if not done properly and safely.

What we are trying to accomplish is getting the starter interrupt relay recycling again since when the alarm went off and was reset it didn't make the connection back to where the IGN switch power goes to the starter, probably a bad spring in the relay or corroded contacts.

If it isn't that relay it would be a defective Theft deterrant controller.

I'd set it off and then reset it a few times and try to start it after each attempt.

After that you need to find the interrupt relay and connector and read voltages to troubleshoot it further.

Thanks. If I arm it with the PDL switch, but then manually pull the lock knob up, then close the door and reopen, should that trip the horns/ lights?

Actually, wait a minute: with the alarm armed (solid "SECURITY" light) shouldn't opening EITHER ONE of the manually unlocked doors trip the horn/ lights?

It's armed after the solid light goes out

after mine has been armed you have to unlock the driver door with the remote for it to start again don't know if this is how yours is

Yea just leave the window down and pull the door lock knob it should go off.

That's an aftermarket alarm. Factory has no remote
