I just recently failed my emissions test here in AZ. I passed in all aspects of the test with the exception of the PRESSURE TEST.

I'm not exactly sure what consists of the pressure test, but I was wondering if it may be just a matter of lowering the fuel pressure.

I did some searching here on the forum, and have seen some that have had the same problem with failing emissions.

I was running Fuel Pressure @ 42 at the time of my emissions test, and I am thinking that maybe if I lower it to the low to mid 30's setting, it may do the trick...

Could anybody give me any advice on what I should be doing, or if my intention of lowering the fuel pressure should do the trick.

I also have a turbotweak emissions chip if that factors into the equation.

Thanks

I think the pressure test if for the gas cap, At least in PA it is. Its to see wheather or not the cap holds pressure to prevent the tank from venting into the atmoshpere.

Yeah we have that test here in Arizona also, I passed the gas cap test. The pressure test is the only aspect of the test that I did not pass.

I dont know anything about a pressure test (and I have my emission license), maybe its different in AZ. I am definatly courious about this test though. Is it related to fuel psi?

I'm not even sure bro, but thanks for the responses, I appreciate it a great deal.

That test pressurizes you fuel tank and checks the leak rate. Ask me how I Know. First time i failed it was the oring between the fuel pump and tank.... the next time was small cracks on the gas tank around the filler neck. Of course it could be the rubber hoses by the charcoal canister , or the gas cap .......but doubtful.

thanks Tim, never heard of that. Guess its time for premier to start pluging things up

How are they checking for that! I could see if the car was OBDII and it would fail by having a PO44 (evap leak detected) stored in the computer. What are they smoke testing you??

they clamp off the charcoal canister hose, take your gas cap off , use a fitting similar to a gas cap with an air hose, and charge the system through the gas tank. Then they simply monitor the pressure drop through their handy little computer.

I thought I heard they were going to start that in CA., but I ran my GN through today and they didn't do it.

Here is a tip on finding the leak,
remove the vacuum line from the charcoal cannister and pressurize with 5-10 psi of air, you don't have to go crazy with the pressure. Then you can work your way around the car listening for the leak(s).
You might have to remove the heat shield above the passenger side of the axle, or lower the fuel tank some if don't hear anything up front.
My bet is on the section of rubber hose above the heat shield.
This should give you an audible way to verify why/where caused it to fail.

I hope that helps.
