Has anyone ever dissected a fan delay relay. Mine was shot so I took it apart. One part has me puzzled. There is a 10 pin rectangle shaped part at the end of the printed circuit board. What is this? Also, is there a direct replacement for the small relay inside? I know, I'm going to get a new one but I still would like to know just because.

Quote from John Spina: "The purpose of the relay is to allow the coolant fan to run for five to ten minutes AFTER the car is shut off ONLY if the coolant temperature rises above 226 degrees F.
This helps the engine cool down, when you leave the vehicle, under extreme conditions such as use of the air conditioner in heavy traffic during very hot days."
He goes on to say: "Personally, I would disconnect this relay & leave it out of the car completely. Since we all use 160 degree thermostats and most of us have good radiators, the effectiveness of this relay is minimal and not worth the outside chance that it might kill your battery or adversely affect your electrical system when it fails."

Mine has been unplugged for over a year now. HTH

I copied the above from a previous post. I didn't know if you were aware of it or not. I can't help you on the circuitry of the relay itself though. If you do decide to replace it, most TR vendors stock it, & fairly cheap as I recall. HTH

I believe also that the delay relay will be activated if the AC pressure is over 300psi regardless of coolant temp. The fan will pull air through the condenser and reduce the pressure. Racers who have removed their AC may not need the relay, but street cars might.

As for the risk of draining the battery, sure it might happen, but so will a defective high speed or low speed fan relay or probably 10 other things. I wonder just how many TR owners have had their battey drained by a defective delay fan relay?

Which relay is this? Is it one of the three on the drivers fender? I am having porblems with the high speed fan coming on, this may be the problem.?

It is the one closest to the firewall, also the largest of the three.
It has 2 sets of connectors plugged into it.
