Has anyone here used a FAST sytem with staged injection?

I was thinking of having my system upgraded to staged injection, and running two completely seperate fuel systems.

Cruise around on small injectors and 93 octane, and the second stage of injectors would be running race fuel.

Seems like it would be nice, as driveability could be slightly improved, and race fuel would only be used when needed.

I called FAST today, and at first they didn't even know what I was talking about, than said that they don't do staged injection anymore, and they havn't for about 3 years. (but it's still on their website with part #'s??).

I think I'm going to make the switch to BS3.

Maybe it just me but why would you go through the expence of a second fuel system and a second set of injectors in the intake when you could just install the second fuel system and an after market ECM to do the same thing? And just switch fuel tanks.

With the broad control of the fuel, timing and A/F map I don't see the need to use small injectors for street driving and a second set for racing. If this is not a turbo Buick the ECM's for V8's has NOS control. You could just use this to trip the fuel jets and still add more fuel to your system.

A while back, with my 3.8 motor with 55# injectors and a 10:1 compression motor I had the ECM set up with a program so under 10# of boost the timing and stuff was backed off to run 93 octane fuel. Above 10# the program was set up for full race fuel with much higher timing and different A/F ratio.

But to each there own. Good Luck

BS3 advertises staged injection but that is just advertising at this point. They plan to add that feature in the future. Right now they are working on a 7th injector and ESC features.

Figures as much. I guess I will just have to wait.

I've heard that BDS can convert GEN6 systems to staged injection.

Maybe they can do FAST systems as well.

I am dissapointed that FAST advertises staged injection on their website, though it is no longer available, and they will not even build one for me as a special order.

:(

If memory serves, they had developed that option but never sold any because of zero demand, so they abondoned the idea.

Bob is exactly right..BDS doesn't do it, they send it in direct, and I dont think they DFI supports Gen 6 anymore at all either!

I wonder if you could wire the grounds for both sets of injectors in parallel, except only have a positive feed the second set of injectors activated by a throttle switch or something. That way, the 2nd set would only fire when the throttle switch activates them.

The VE numbers might get really screwy, but if you don't mind a bastard setup it might be possible.

Of course that might pull too much current and hurt the FAST, esp for low-imp injectors.

I was thinking of that actually

I think in order for it to work, both injectors would have to be 83's or so.

(Rather than 2 smaller sets).

I was also not sure of what type of relay would work fast enough to have a seamless tranition.

Are you looking for an either/or situation?

Or would you like to fire both sets of injectors at once?

-Bob C.

I don't need to fire both sets at once.

I would try it like how you suggested, if I knew the transition could be seamless.

It would be alot of work to go through to have a stumble at WOT when the injectors switched.
