A friend of mine bought the fast XFi comp and everything and now he is about to sell his car so he told me to put it on my car and if I liked it he will make me a deal on it. The only thing is I dont know anything about this, is it hard to put on, tune, or get runnng, I am a good mechanic and have alot of tools but new to the turbo buick stuff, I dont know what im getting into, so please help, should I get it or not? Once i get it tuned do i have to keep messing with it to keep it running right,I want to learn how to mess with it but not sure if its more trouble than its worth. Like I say I know nothing about this. any help will be greatly appreciated

hell ya get it. if you can get it for a good deal i would install it in a heart beat\

If you are new to these cars I would personally get to know them with the stock ECM/chips before you go getting yourself into tuning/troubleshooting an aftermarket EMS, but that's just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions;)

Ive pretty much done everything I can to my car Ive built the motor with stock crank rjc main girdle, eagle h beam rods, wiseco pictons, small comp cam, alot of head work, precision 61mm turbo with precision stock location intercooler, I just got my trans back from art carr with manual valve body the best trans they offered, 60 lb injectors and chips from red armstrong, ls1 mass air flow sensor, pretty much everything, Ive put about 100 miles on them and sat night i was driving it and broke the rocker arm shaft but I had another one so its back to running and now Im thinking about putting this fast unit on it but not sure about it. How hard is it to put on the car? once its on the car how hard is it to get running? and how hard to get it tuned in.

when i bought the car the trans started slipping and then the cam took a lobe so ive just went and did everyting the way I wanted.

How hard is it to install? Probably the easiest part with the right cables etc.
Remember, your ECM will go away, as will your MAF.
You will be converting over to speed density as apposed to MAF control.

There are a couple of other things that will need to be changed. You'll need to move your IAT (inlet air temp) sensor from it's present location to somewhere in the inlet tract either in the up pipe in front of the throttle body or in the intake doghouse somewhere, because speed density needs to now monitor MAT (manifold air temp). You'll also need to weld in a WBO2 bung so as to run a WBO2 sensor, your stock O2 can no longer be used.
Oh, and you'll also need a good 3 bar MAP sensor.

When converting to Speed Density you'll also be learning a whole new language and tuning scheme (not a bad thing, just different). You'll be talking VE (volumetric efficiency), MAP (manifold absolute pressure) measured in Kpa (kilopascals), VE tables, etc. etc.

If you're familiar with the finer points of tuning these monsters, your learning curve won't be insurmountable.
